View Full Version : Redback 2.5" exhaust discontinued - Mercury Instead?

Hi all.

I've decided to upgrade the exhaust of my 2003 ZD30 GU Patrol. After doing some research I had settled on getting the Redback 2.5" mild steel system. One place in Maroochydore quoted me $1180 for install, but after checking with their distributor they were informed that the system has been discontinued.

I was offered the 2.75" Mercury system (stainless steel) for a slight increase in price. Has anyone had any experience with this system?

I don't want to go 3" as to limit overboosting (rather than install a Dawes Valve) and from all the research I have done the smaller diameter supposedly give better low down torque and power gains.

Can anyone recommend some good exhaust businesses in the Sunshine Coast region that could be competitive.

I'm also looking for a suspension upgrade and mechanical front locker as well, I have spoken to some places in Brisbane and the Gold Coast that have good prices but would prefer somewhere local.

Thanks for any advice!

Hey mate, it is always a good idea to post up an introduction before asking for assistance as it get everyone on side from the start, it is also something we like all new members to do first.

Just go here http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/forumdisplay.php?2-Introductions

Ok, thanks for the heads up and information.

I realise the question has been asked many times so it's hard to sift through all the different opinions. And quotes vary wildly between people I have contacted. All part of the fun I guess!

Update.

I ended up getting a 2.5" exhaust and Dawes valve installed at A1 Exhaust in Caboolture. Driving home the throttle response was noticeable, the engine revs more freely and holds gear better. That was mostly flat highway driving, so I'll reply with some more thoughts and fuel consumption after a few weeks of different driving.

Attached are the dyno results.
