F the jeep bought a cj 4.25 sports side console with 40 h yamie .Right o looking for a combo plotter / fish finder in the lowance range what is the base and whats nice to have . The boat will be used up the gulf in bay and estuary fishing hence the 40 horse on the back . Model no will be good so I can study the form guide as I am a novice at this game .

No knowledge whatsoever about these things, but for the next week BCF have a heap of them on special. Even on special I reckon they make the price of a feed pretty high! (But then again so do boats, motors etc).

Depending on your budget i guess, My mate runs a HDS12 as the sounder and a HDS9 as the chat plotter also has this USB music hub linked into it and can control the tunes from either of the touch screens.

Killer set up!

For that sort of money forget lowance , go a furuno ls 4100 bottom of the range for furuno but a excellent sounder , yes its not colour and does nor have a lot of bells and whistles , but in my and my commercial fishing mates opinion , they punch well above their weight ,

Nope , but with the change out of your budget you could get a gps , and not have all your eggs in the one basket so to speak , if the sounder dies you still have a gps and vice versa , like I said not the flashiest , and not used by the magazine & tv "gurus" just a simple functional sounder , I tried a 1kw transducer on mine and had good bottom show on 150 m , bloody good for a $500 sounder

I'm running a Hds7 and does very well on my small boat (pictured with old set up)http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2015/06/313.jpg
As a navigational tool, I would not set your budget so low.
I was in your position when my first combo stopped working after 10 yrs and didn't want to spend much.
But I said to myself, I like to fish, I go often, so why skimp on a tool that will help me get more fish more often and get me to where I wanna go safely.
My 2 cents worth. Buy the best you can afford.

Good setup Mego mine has a bit more freeboard as I don't like them big lizards eyeballing me at water level and there are a few around nth of rocky .

The seats Mego look to be below your standard I got the impression you only polished leather :p

Mego ended up with a [URL="http://www.bcf.com.au/online-store/products/Lowrance-Elite-7-CHIRP-Combo.aspx?pid=362886 URL] as that was where the budget stopped .Thanks for your input .
