View Full Version : How to tell the difference from a3.3 from a 4.2

Hi guys I'm goi g buying a patrol Engien that came out of a Landrover and the guy ident sure if it's a 4.2 or 3.3 and I didn't my k ow how to tell the difference without tearing the engine apart and I was hoping that someone could tell me here thanks a mill in advance

3 is 4 cylinder 4.2 is 6 cylinder

The SD33 is a straight 6. (Beware the first MQ SD33 released was 24V system)
1964–1987 Nissan SD engine — Series One — Diesel 2.2/2.3/2.5 L — SD22, SD23, SD25 (Straight 4)
1980–1988 Nissan SD engine - Series Two — Diesel 3.3 L — SD33, SD33T (Straight 6)

Also the td42 engine number on the block starts with td42
