GU 2003 REmote key ? Can i DIY myself or dealer needs to re- programme.

Hi ALL
My 2003 Nissan GU spat the dummy the other day and remote has stopped working. Me thinks its quite old and stuffed.
1/ Can I resurrect my remote by giving it a good clean and check the solder or.
2/ Just bite the bullet and get another new one from Nissan.
I ve been told that I will need to get them to re- programme the remote. this cannot be a DIY .
is that true or bullshit.

dont quote me on this but im sure i have read the more experienced members on this forum saying there is a replacement module you can buy, which comes with the remotes and the reciever module and it just plugs in to where the old control module is. its something im meaning to do also as my remote flattens batterys in about a week and i only have one.

From what I have read here and elsewhere, replacing the OEM remote is a waste of time. Some have reported it works for a week or so then just dies again, some have said it still didn't work as its supposed to... Also costs a bomb for a new one then you need to pay for it to be reprogrammed. I did this many moons ago and is still working great...
