I was fixing a blown Parker globe in the headlight and noticed this. I'm assuming it's not good. The smooth black finish is gone, it's very dry, and pitted.

How do I fix this???

It is supposed to be dry, if it isnt there are seal issues inside. I always scuff that area with a scotchbrite, clean it with wax and grease remover and paint it Whenever the swivel hub is apart.

What he said ^^^^^. if you are not pulling them down give is a rub at full lock with some scotchbrite or wetndry and clean it up so you don't end up wrecking your scrapper seals.

Thanks guys. It's pretty heavily pitted, how's best to deal with that?

I'm surprised it's still sealing, makes me think there's no diff oil in there... That'll be a check in the morning.

Diff oil won't come out of there unless you have a damaged inner axle seal then regardless of how that looks it would be leaking out of there.

Your ore likely risking water getting into the hub during a water crossing.

The inner axle seal is what keeps the oil in the housing. the seal that runs along the housing is more of a scraper/wiper seal. Just throw some coats of paint on it. If you do it semi regularly the paint will eventually fill the pits

Oh, ok. Thanks MR.

I have noticed a bit of a vibration that gets worse with speed. It's to fine to be a whee out of balancel. Initially I was thinking it felt like a uni joint. I can feel it in the floor and steering. Could be that wheel bearing?? Might Jack it up tomorrow.

What paint do you use? Something like Rustguard?

One of our European members filled that in some how and just sanded it smooth again,
not sure if it was just body filler or a metallic filler of some kind,
Might have been Pierre from France

If you strip them down I would paint them with spray putty and sand smooth then repaint.
