93 GQ tail lights not working

Hi all, as the title says my tail lights stopped working, as you would I checked the fuse, looked ok changed it any way, no joy.

tested the new fuse in another spot it works so put it back in, no joy, changed the bulbs as they were old, no joy, got online read about the probs with the light switch stalk and the contacts, so I pulled it apart and cleaned the contacts, no joy grrrrrrr.

bought another switch, still no f in joy, so any ideas?

Is that all of the rear lights not working. Do you have a trailer plug installed?

Hi Clunk, I have brake lights all four and indicators at the back I doo have a trailer plug

So do your front park lights and dash lights still come on?

Its common for the trailer plug wiring to cause that sort of fault if its only your rear tail lights not working

Just make sure the fuse that you replaced is the right one. What on the fuse board says the tail light may not be the right one. This happens when the car goes through backyard modifications and electric wiring get tossed around. When I was fixing few electrical issues of my GQ, I've noticed some shocking backyard electric word done on it.
Other possibility is the wire harness plugs has developed corrosion or has undone itself somewhere. Either way, blowing a fuse usually happens for a reason. You may wanna find out the reason as well, if the fuse is the cause of the problem.

A multimeter or a probe tester(light globe type) comes pretty handy in these situations. They are pretty cheap to buy.

Sometime on 4x4s the lead at the back of the globe wears flat, thats why sometimes
when you tap the lens it will work, could also remove the globe in inspect the socket for corrosion .
re move that with some wet and dry.
Looks like you need ET or Yendor maybe Mudnut may know as well

It was the earth wire on the trailer plug, my Dad paid good money to get that plug put in and I'm disgusted by how the very amateur wiring was done, every wire was red for a start, some just twisted no solder, I've made a temporary fix until I can rewire the plug properly.
