G,day all, I am after a rear diff flange from a GQ.
They are slightly smaller than the GU.

Nah, mate, but I've

It was just to fit to
my spare diff so it
isn't needed urgently.
Cheers, mudnut.

I would say it's not easy to find a one as it usually goes with the complete diff centre for used ones.

When I first got the
Old Trol it started making
a clanging?banging noise
in the drive line
I was told by a mechanic
that it was the diff so
I bought a GU diff and swapped
the flange over.
The noise is still there,
even after a gearbox and
transfer case swap out, when
a bearing went in the gearbox.
I have the original diff sitting
in the shed. If I break the GU
diff, I will just have to swap
it back over. Maybe
I will get a flange in the
future.

I'm in the same situation, except my gearbox is still going ok and I hope it will for the next million kilometers as well. :D
When the pinion bearing went cactus in mine, I bought a GU 4:3 one off a wrecker and had to swap over the flanges.
I still got the 4:3 GQ diff on the bench. I'm hoping to finish rebuilding it this month. :)
It has taken over a year for me to rebuild it. :))
So, you still have the clunk from the drive line?!
Did you do the bearing preload by hand or using an inch-pound torque wrench?
I wouldn't do it by hand, 'cos we don't have the experience of the hand feeling of the diff specialist.
I marked the place of the pinion nut. Also used a hanging digital scale to measure the preload.
If you didn't do the uni joint, do that as well. Uni joint is pretty cheap to do.
I'm suppose to do mine as well. I'll do it as soon as the original GQ diff is ready to go in.
When my GQ diff is ready, I would simply swap the flange over again.
I reckon it's pretty hard to find a flange alone. Even a 4:11 diff flange is different from the 4:3 one, AFAIK.

A mate helped check
the preload a couple
of weeks ago.
And the noise is
still there. I hasn't
broken anything
so I'll just live
with it.

I wouldn't ignore it, unless it's a pretty common thing with RB30's.
It can be flywheel-clutch noise as well, I reckon.
I think, it's ok to leave it alone if you don't do long trips on the RB30.
I've been hearing a gearbox grunt(I think) around 1500rpm on second gear and some time third gear.
I was told while ago it's kinda common thing with GQs.
It's been happening for 5+ years without a drama, so I think it's ok.

It is a supposed
to be a new clutch.
Well, I paid for it as
such. The only
thing that hasn't
been changed out
is the tail shaft and uni
joints which have no
slop or slack. It must
be a combination
of all the slack and
backlash in
the drive line.
My mate, the
dynotuner isn't
too fussed about
it either.
it.

I think a manual transmission specialist would know more about these grunts, clunks, etc etc that come from the drive line.
Also suspension specialists as well. These guys are exposed enough to the structural, stability issues of vehicles to make good diagnosis about issues as such. I also think the combined brain power we get from forums like this also very useful.
I think your explanation of combined slack and backlash is quite probable.
Those kinda mechanical issues are very hard to pinpoint to a one place in the drive line.
I have similar issues with the engine smoothness.
Yesterday, having rained all day, it was misfiring as soon as I started. Even after warming up fro half hour of driving, still misfiring. Got home and then started another half hour later, it wasn't that bad. I will get to it eventually.
