I have a spare ECU that I'll probably never use but I'm a big believer in Murphy's Law so I'm wondering how I can get it to match my current ECU i.e. with the current keys coded to it.

My research tells me that key coding can be done with, for example, a T300 key reader but I don't know if the ECU has to first be matched to the NATS module before the keys can be coded to the ECU.
I also don't know if coding the keys to a spare ECU makes the original ECU unuseable (without recoding the keys). If that's the case, it would mean I'd have to travel with both the ECU and the key reader device.

Anyone have good knowledge of what's needed here and what the possibilities are?

This for my 2001 GUII and I don't know what version of NATS it has because research says NATS was upgraded from 2001 but no info on what models.
