can anyone inform me what the noise is when you creep away in a slow crawl in 1st or 2nd gear,that growls in my 4.2 diesel????--i hear most of them doing it--it sounds shithouse and was wondering if you can adjust it out???????????:confused:

I believe it's called gear rollover noise or something similar, some have it, some don't and if you do have it it's very hard to get rid of. It's something to do with the harmonic vibrations from the engine transfering through the driveline.

load er up to about 2 grand and drop the clutch, the squeeling tyres will drown out the noise, or, you could try "OMEGA" gearbox oil, very expensive tho.

Yep I get that too, like what Tony said you can hear everything vibrate.

The noise is just as Tony pointed out, a lot of TD42's do the same. Have been told by another mechanic "it will still be doing it at 700,000km's".
In other words, don't worry about it.
In saying that, I try not to dwell in that rev range any more than necessary.
I'm sure the noise quietened down after a recent GB oil change, but it might be placebo.
Heard that 'Nuelon"(spelling?) was also a good additive, but haven't been bothered.
