I have just fired an amp to my stereo and now have engine buzz through the speakers. I have checked earths, checked rca cables. If I unplug the rca cables from the back of the head unit it goes away. I'm thinking the stereo is getting it through the power. I'm on day 3 of changing shit around and need some advice or a psychiatrist to get me through this.

Got a CB?
If other stations can here low level interference when you transmit then you def need a power supply filter.
I'd try one anyway as it will remove any ground loop or noisy power issues.
Any of the Car Stereo outlets or Ebay will have them.
Usually $20 to maybe $40-50 for a top end one

Agree with ET. Get a filter from Car Stereo outlet or Jaycar. Easier than trying to earth and shield everything.

Some cheap Chinese stereos don't have the correct low pass filters on the battery line, is your a name brand unit?

Will these things fix crappy radio reception? My Chinese double din has horrible reception....

bad earth/earth leak? did you earth the radio to the body or keep the original earth?

This unit only uses earth from the body of the stereo to the frame where it mounts. It has an earth wire in the loom but I did read somewhere not to use it on the patrols as you will blow a fuse.

i thought that if you earthed through the body you would get the engine (noise) becuase they are sharing an earth? isnt that why u must keep the radio on a separate circuit?

99% of the time, no, they won't.

All earths on the Patrol go through the body somewhere. The main feed from the battery goes directly to the body. Also the body is the lowest resistance path for any earth, low resistance = low noise/ interference.

seen this lots of times before, fair guess that you ran the rca and power cables both down the same side of the patrol probly right against each other?

always run the rcas along a differnt path to the power cable so that there not close/touching, the power interferes with the signal in the rca's i cant give a technical answer but have seen it more times than i can count
