The past week my 2000 3.0L GU patrol has been making very loud screeching noises and I can't seem to figure out what the problem is

Cheers for the Intro post Rcarter96
Your problem is one of two things - either the exhaust manifold has a leak where it meets the cylinder head, or the EGR pipe that runs from the exhaust manifold around the back of the head to the EGR system has got a crack in it. It sounds like a slipping fanbelt, and generally goes away when the engine gets hot.
You can try tightening the exhaust manifold bolts up - that's the quick and free fix. If that doesn't help (and it's the manifold) then it needs to come off to be machined flat, and re-fitted with a new gasket. I'd also fit new studs into the head at the same time, they stretch.
If it's the EGR pipe, you can either replace it, or block it where it meets the exhaust manifold.

If you are sure its coming from the belts or pulleys, it may be the tensioning pulley bearing. If it is replace it with genuine part or it will probably happen again. If it is not pulley/belt, what has been suggested above.

yep x 3 for the belt tensioner, you can buy the bearing by itself if you have access to a press or if you have lots of money you can buy the complete tensioner.

You can rule the leaking exhaust manifold in or out by placing a rag over the exhaust and partially blocking it while car is idling to build up some back pressure. If the squealing starts then you know what's wrong. I had a similar noise for 18 months. I changed belt and tensioner and it sounded a bit different (must have been faulty) but was still there. Was getting worse and was starting to fear it might be turbo related as the noise was coming from that area. My mechanic did the trick with the rag and car started to squeal. Turns out one of the studs had broken.
Now all fixed and car running brilliantly.
