So I've been looking at using one of the spare switch spots for a couple of usb chargers.

Just stumbled across these.
Probably a bit steep but still.

Thanks for the link

They look the part, as most things require a USB outlet to function one at the back of the centre console might be the go.
I only have merit and cig but cig socket is a thing of the past and should be outlawed on 4x4s lol
I use the Baintech dual outlet on the lower centre console

Yea I've got 2 of those. One in the rear and one on a small electrical junction box with Anderson plug so I can run power to the tent.
But nothing up front for while driving. That's what I found these for.

I've been looking into something similar. Keep in mind that most of the USB chargers ive seen on ebay and at Jaycar have a 1.0A and a 2.1A slot (or they might advertise 3.1A shared across two slots). Such a config wont charge 2 ipads. Ipads need a 2.1A slot. Even if you want a faster charge on your mobile, chose the 2.1A slot.

So if you're thinking of throwing a couple of these USB sockets in the back seat for the kids, make sure you get 2x 2.1A... otherwise.. "are we there yet?" ... "are we there yet?" :1087:

Im looking for something like this in a dashmount config - http://www.jaycar.com.au/Power-Products-Electrical/Power-Conversion-%26-Transformation/12VDC-Power-Supplies/4-2A-Dual-USB-Car-Charger/p/MP3666 May be able to pull the guts out of it and refit it to one of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/Car-2-1A-Dual-USB-Port-Socket-Charger-Smartphone-PDA-DVR-Audio-Input-For-Toyota/371305076493?_trksid=p2047675.c100009.m1982&_trkparms=aid%3D777000%26algo%3DABA.MBE%26ao%3D1%2 6asc%3D30002%26meid%3Dcf1367e8480a45f49ed5d8eba707 333a%26pid%3D100009%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26sd%3D1314 92692357

can you just run wire from your aux battery to the location and wire up?

i pulled my cigi lighter out the front and tried to wire it up but the wires in place did not want to play ball for some reason!

Thats all I did , just tapped into the power cable going to the rear power outlet.
Don't forget to fuse it at the battery end, I used these

threedogs

at least 6mm for any power wires

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/321464011399?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I find it easier to run a thick cable to a fuse block that is fused at the battery.
I'm a big fan of blue sea fuse blocks like this one (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BLUE-SEA-5025-FUSE-BLOCK-BOX-HOLDER-MARINE-BOAT-BATTERY-12-VOLT-12V-6-WAY-NEW-/301518048768?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item4633e04e00)

Find a spot for it under the dash, passenger kick panel, glove box etc and then you can run as many fused accessories as the fuse block has spots

thanks guys.. will look into the fuse box also as that means i just run lines from the box which is nice a clean coz i aint got a clue whats going on behind the dash with the cabling and that way i know whats what!

Did you wore that up through the ignition or straight from the auxiliary battery? If straight from the battery is the plug lit all the time? Is there a drain on the battery? Not much but potentially enough

Seems it's ignition or always on.
I guess you could ignition feed a relay so it's not always on but still drawing from sub.

Bought this item from ebay: 251657096591. Installed it below and tapped into the aerial switch so it is isolated with ignition off.
Came with an in line fuse.
Unfortunately it is for European Nissan, the slot dimension were exactly the same however the locking device didn't hold it in place.
Popped the dash facia off and secured it in place with super glue.
Now have a charger for my Samsung Galaxy while on the road.

Yes its into a switch slot the old GQ had one next to the heating slides.
We piggy backed it of the cig lighter socket so it only works when the ignition is on.

I purchased and installed one of these a couple of months ago. They look great and work great - except that I thought that they were also an on/off switch so you could use the rocker to switch the USB charger on and off. They are not and as I connect every accessory to the auxillary battery, I had to install a separate switch. Otherwise the USB would be permanently on. Anyway, I don't like the idea of connecting the USB charger to the ignition switch because sometimes I want to charge things when the ignition is off.

I have mine live to the Aux battery with no problems ,
dont really have much room left for any on/off switches

Yes was looking at that. But a simple relay from the ignition to ativate it would be the go..

yep I reckon 3A total too, 3A when you have one phone being charged then maybe if your lucky splits to 1.5A each socket when charging 2 phones

Not needed. When you turn the key off - it goes off - which is what I don't actually want.
