As the title says I am chasing the twin piston front calipers from the TB42E, need to put a seal kit through mine and if I can upgrade instead that would be great

Has anyone ever searched to see if nissan just threw the twin pots from another model onto the gq??

Like the window Module is the same as early Sylvia's.

Looking at ebay. Not much is standing out but the silvia 4 pots would be a huge upgrade.
Might go see the wreckers lol

Its all supply and demand.. I have seen the calipers for from $150-450 a set.

They seem to get snapped up pretty quickly. Make sure you get the bolts with them and you will need new rotors and pads. I would also put a seal kit through them as well as you just don't know what condition they are actually in on the inside. I have seen calipers that looked OK on the outside, but once you pull them apart its a different story.

When I did the upgrade, I pulled mine apart and there was quite a bit of gunk in them, but luckily the pistons were fine and all went back together with new seals perfectly.

Yeah I'll definitely be doing a seal kit when I find some. Thanks for that though.
You're not wrong about them getting snapped up quickly, saw somebody wrecking one on facebook last night, I got in within 5 minutes of being posted and he said somebody had already claimed them.

Im going down to a 4x4 shop very soon to talk about my intake I'll
ask about some 2 pot calipers while I'm there for you.
He does a lot of mods and mainly only Patrols.

Thanks John. Patrolapart have a 2nd hand set for $450 but that's a bit more than I want to spend at a moment

Just the front mate as the rears are the same. Only after 2nd hand and I will be rebuilding them regardless so they don't need to be in great condition

Thanks John. Patrolapart have a 2nd hand set for $450 but that's a bit more than I want to spend at a moment

When I did my..I could not find a set for love or money. Then I spoke to patrolapart about them and they said they had one set coming in for exactly the same cost, so I bit the bullet and snapped them up. But as murpheys law dictates..a week after fitting them all up..there were sets on eBay for 150-200 lol

But at the same time the set I got from patrol a part were in good nick and I did not have to replace any pistons which is always a risk with secondhand calipers

I will say though, that while there is an increase in stopping power, its not the huge increase that you (well I) expected. But the pedal feel is much better so its definitely a good upgrade. I would be rebuilding the rears as well while I was there as you may find that the fronts work much better and it will upset the balance.

When I did my rebuild, I rebuilt the rears first and found that after the rebuild they overpowered the rears (ie rears would lock far to early). Then after putting the rebuilt fronts on the balance came right and worked perfectly.

I have a set of seal kits for the rears you can have if you want

Just a thought Winnie have you tried the Safebrake braided hoses,
going price seems to be around $300 for all 4 .

Winnie

Thanks doka, I'll be rebuilding the rears at the same time so no dramas there!
John I am hoping to get the braided hoses as well but from what I gather they do not really aid in stopping performance but give a much better pedal feel? Anyway I want them too!

I used HEL Braided lines..370.00 for all six. lifetime warranty made in QLD and ADR approved (if that means anything :) )..well worth it in my book..

Found a set for 150, haven't bought them yet but the guy said this to me.

Umm I'll part with them for $150 as one of the calipers needs a boot but they come with hubs and rotors rotors need a machine

Not quite sure what he means by needs a boot?? Is that one of the seals? I will put a seal kit through them anyway

doka404
18th April 2015, 07:32 AM
I would say it probably just needs a dustboot (part of the seal kit).
As long as the pistons are OK (won't know till you strip them) then your all good to go. Even if there is a damaged piston, you can by replacements and for 150 for the calipers, your still ahead 😊
