View Full Version : Mounting RedArc SBI12d

Hi, well I'm 2/3 of the way through installing my dual battery sytstem....today my RedArc SBI12D arrived...the Instructions say to mount it as close to the starting battery as possible, well, under the bonnet of a 2014 Patrol there is nowhere to mount it close to the starting battery, I have plenty of room over the other side near the AUX, will mounting it there significantly change how the SBI12D performs..

I'm using standard 12v battery cable and have run it from the crank battery up along the firewall (length approx 1.5m).
I initially mounted it between the AUX and the catch can (but then read the part about as close as possible to the start battery), so unbolted then tried to find a mount near the crank battery, there just isn't any space that I can mount it...
Any Ideas/Advice
Thanks

Near your aux will be fine assuming your cable size is up to scratch. The only reason they say to do it as close as possible to the cranker is so there isn't massive voltage drop

Cable is about 225 amps....

Mine was mounted on the passengers side firewall and had no dramas with good size cable.

Mine too was mounted next to the aux battery on the passenger side by Telstra using 35mm2 cable ...... until I removed it along with the no longer needed battery .

Thanks to all, mounted it where it was originally (near the AUX)

Other than the one at the rear [50 amp]with a thermo couple near the battery,
I also ran one to the front that is tucked up near the winch, at camp I can power lights,
or if need be plug in a solar panel

Thermo couple? I'm not sure I understand... do you mean a fuse or a breaker?
My rear Anderson plug for the camper runs off the crank battery.
My solar panel input is a dedicated input plug, but it runs back to a Redarc BMS that handles the voltage regulation. All my camp lighting comes off a fuse block from my Aux battery.

I know it's a little late now, but this is how mine was mounted in my 2013 Model. This is the SBI212 200amp solenoid though. Used existing captive nuts all ready on drivers side. Slots in solenoid bracket had to be filed slightly to fit.
