Hello Everyone,

I am new to this forum. And I actually do not own a Nissan Patrol as of yet. I am about to buy a Y61 2.8 Short wheel base 1999. I have just made up my mind and sold my Land Rover Defender to build a Patrol for Desert Racing. It took me quit some time to settle on the Patrol. I need a 4x4 that will be strong enough to hold after 8 hours of Desert Racing without much parts to change... My budget is that of an Amateur so to speak compared with other professionals.

I hope I can get to learn more and more about the Patrol and enjoy myself in this community.

Thanks for reading.

Cheers.
Nawfal from Morocco.

Thanks :)

I am considering one of 2 options an Audi V6 3.0TDI or If I can fit, an Audi V8 4.2TDI

I like Audi Diesel Engines. Very developed and can be tuned to perfection. Also very strong engines if well maintained.

Nice choise of motor there mate, welcome to the forum.

Here we would use a LS1 chev motor

The LS1 is very dependable and powerful engine. I can't run Gasoline though... The training alone would be expensive.

I hear the gearbox on the Patrol is very powerful do you have any idea on the torque it can withstand?

it can handle 6.5 TD chev diesel , diesel duramax,, 454 petrol, very strong IMO

Also good to know the V6TD Audi will fit

Welcome mate. This sounds like a killer build.
Be sure to do up a build thread in the members ride section.
I think you'll have a lot of people drooling.

I know some Polish guys that swap with the BMW 3.5D and 3.0D keeping the AC and everything.

The 6.5 TD Chevy Diesel is only about 600Nm of torque Max output... We are estimating an easy 800Nm of torque with the Audi engines. And the BMW Polish swap take the 3.5D Twin Turbo to 800Nm of Torque.

hi mate, continuing this line of conversation would be much better done in a different section of the forum IMHO. you should probably ask these type of questions over in the engine related section as most people wont check this thread much more than once as its an introduction thread. Good luck and i look forward to seeing your build thread on what sounds like an absolute beast
