Can anybody give me a bit of advice about the wifes Toyota Corolla. It has developed a fault where it will run and idle fine hot or cold for a while but will suddenly drop revs and stall or almost stall. it will then start first time, rev fine etc
I know its a toyota but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Time to get it code tested.
It could be a fault in the idle control or fuel systems. A code test will give you a better idea of where to start looking.
Does the fault only occur when the car is idling or does it loose power while driving as well?

Only happens if driving while braking, so only while idling i suppose. Took it for a spin and it drives great until stopping slowing anddoesnt happen every time either.

I know your miles away mate but I have a TC in my paddock which is running B+ so if something happens and you need an expensive part that would justify me sending something up then just yell out...

At least the seating position will be right for Di, it's no good for tall people!

Tony

When it comes to driving Finly I'd say she's the perfect height.

It is possible but I'd like to see what codes are in the system first.

How can i get the fault codes? Im assuming specialist equipment is involved.

Most likely yes, you will have to take it to someone with the right diagnostic scan tool. There may be a way to manually extract the fault codes but it's a Toyota so I have no idea how it would be done.

My falcon had a problem exactly as you describe.

What was happening was the MAP sensor was not functioning and the engine was thinking that the car was running too lean so it would tip in more fuel, then the o2 sensor was saying it was running too rich so it'd back off on the fuel after a couple of seconds.

Maybe I have it the other way around, but you get the point. Two components with differing opinions about the fuel air mix. One was wrong.

Check if you have a vacuum hose loose as well.

Thanks mate, i will check the hoses. Did a new map sensor sort the Falcon? Is it an easy job to replace one?
