View Full Version : Tidying up battery terminals.

My main battery terminal is getting ugly and very busy. Compared to my aux battery, which is neat and tidy, thought I'd do something about it.
Just curious, what do you use and how you go about sorting stuff like this out ??

Looks fine to me mate, all the wires are there for a reason/ function not to look pretty lol .
The only upgrade could be new terminals.. With all the same wires connected to it.

I took a look and tried to work out if they were the "after" pics. On my standards that already looks pretty tidy Hodge!

Ok well this is my project for Saturday.

I'd thought about using these instead http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PROJECTA-BT950-P1-FUSED-BATTERY-DISTRIBUTION-TERMINAL-CLAMP-FUSE-COVER-CONNECTOR-/281200300255?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item4178d810df
or these http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PROJECTA-BT925-P1-3-WAY-POSITIVE-DISTRIBUTION-TERMINAL-DUAL-BATTERY-SYSTEM-/221299334125?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item338677dbed
However I'll be using these 2 X of these http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PROJECTA-Battery-Pole-Clamp-BT820H-P1-/151430059726?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item2341ef56ce

Because I plan to make up a aluminium tray that will sit over the current factory fuse position with the following

100Amp CB
Bus Bar Positive
Dual Battery Controller
6 Way Blue sea fuse block
Negative Bus bar
4 Relays

Hopefully I can get this done Saturday and then I will move onto the passenger kick panel fuse block, and then the switches in the sun glasses holder

and if you think yours is bad man mine is a disgrace

Thanks for the replies. Sorry I forgot to mention. The blue battery is the aux, the black one is the main & the + terminal to me is a disgrace, its just lugs piled on top of one another... Was just wondering how to go about cleaning it up. And no to my standards this don't cut it.

I thought about putting a 6 way fuse box under the hood somewhere and run the added accessories of that and leave the main cables and winch cable hooked directly to the battery.

Yeah that's my plan also

Ha ha yeah will see how long it takes and that's only about half of what i want to do. I've got one of Kallen's rear telescopic work lights to hook up also
I've got it all written down and planned but just not sure I'll pull it off yet. I really really struggle with space to mount stuff under the bonnet and even in the cab

This is what I'm doing.
I've bought a sealed narva 6 fuse block with single positive to all, will mount this to fire wall and run the accessories from that.

I have a new truck style terminal with a 8mm bolt so I still have 3 main cables from it, crank, which and genuine lot, but it'll rid all the little ones.

You can get a terminal like Lucas's 2 option so you have a bolt per lug but IMO were to small a bolt and didn't seem adequate enough for 400a loads.

After having a proper look it was obvious which terminal you meant. I still like the idea of everything having a fairly good conctact with good surface area directly off the battery. I wonder if you distribute it all to somewhere else if you are just introducing more problems. Some of those links from lucus look interesting and neat and tidy, but I personally would not bother. Don't get me wrong, I don't want spaghetti and messy stuff in a sense that it is hard to follow or you are not sure what is going on.

I will watch with interest though. If you do a really nice job I might be convinced and "want one too". ha ha :)

I'll be sure to take some pictures for you. Not guaranteed I'll pull it off though

Your welcome to come round and help me Eric ha ha

Also you don't mount high current cables to the bolts on those ones you mount them on the clamp inside

You can buy battery posts for those batteries that will enable you to purchase the correct terminal
to suit your wires and then some,
You possibly need the one with the 8mm post on it that will accept all your accessories

Maybe we should have a photo thread to display all of our battery connections? I reckon there might be more than a few shockers as well as a few that we could all learn from?

Anyone game?

Cuppa

(And yes, mine would fall into the shocker category I reckon).

A long hour mate. Lol
I got some ripper pics of my birds nest. Hodgey! Nothing wrong with your set up at all mate. You will freak when you see mine. I'm just at a loss now on how to fix it all up as I have so much on all terminals.

That is a fairly good point.
After seeing Lucus' thread ...Post pictures of your battery terminals. The good, bad and ugly (http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/showthread.php?32707-Post-pictures-of-your-battery-terminals-The-good-bad-and-ugly)
I feel much better with my terminals. LOL
