G'day, All.
Has anyone experimented with running straight water injection? This bloke from NZ has on a few petrol engines. One major drawback is condensation in the engine after short runs. It would be easy to fit a solenoid in the water line to stop it. If it is suitable for diesel, maybe the ZD30 could benefit by achieving lower EGTs.
Anyway, have a read of this and post your thoughts. Cheers.

That article is very old.
I ran a couple of normally aspirated petrol vehicles on injection years ago.
A 5 litre V8 and a 4.1 litre straight 6
Once the novelty wears off they are a pain in the rrse.
Diesels don't suck, they blow.
Turbo diesels blow even harder.
That means you need a pretty expensive kit to be able to inject the water, water/meth.
I would suggest maybe $1500
Personally I couldn't be arrsed on ZD30

There is some good documentation in the above link.
Most kits available are at a higher pressure anyway as to get the water to atomism correctly it needs to be. This pressure is higher than any boost pressure run in a diesel.
Diesel still pull vacuum is just before the turbo which is a very good place to inject water or water/methanol. They suck like any other NA engine ;)
There are more benefits to than just cooler Egt's. Keeping your engine cleaner is also one.they are a little fiddly to setup but are worth it not just for a zd30.

So it sounds as if you only had nominal improvement with the water, ET. I just read the graphs on that link, thanks Matt.
It looks way easier to set up WI in a petrol. And anything that might make the Dirty 30 live a little longer could be a good thing, I suppose.

Tbh the cost of a good WA kit you could have a nice turbo setup and tuned setup which would give a 10 fold better outcome and still be reliable.

Theres no way I would try and do a ZD30 pre turbo.
It would do your head in trying to control the fuelling and injection I reckon
I wouldn't even bother at all if I was only after lower EGT but if I was chasing grunt then I would go down the path of Chaz with MAP controlled injection at the throttle body.
I'd take the opportunity to arsehole the swirl valve as well.
For a ZD30 at big boost you would need a couple of hundred PSI pump off at least a 6 to 10 litre tank otherwise you will be running out of Water/Meth before you finished a tank of diesel.
If you are into touring you need to carry 10 or 20 litres of distilled/filtered/rain water.
