ZD30 CRD Oil Filter.

Anyone know how to remove a stuck oil filter? I had it serviced just after I got the car and it looks like the oil filter was tightened with a rattle gun. I've tried a half inch socket driver, torque wrench, air ratchet gun and the thing won't budge. Had to ruin $70 of Nulon Oil so I could drive the car again..... :(

Are you talking about the filter or the sump plug ???

I used an extra long brako bar when mine was tight.
Eventually got it, give it a hit to shock it and even try put an extension on the bar it will come

Ok. It wasn't a smart - arse question. I was wondering how in the world do you fit a rattle gun or air ratchet in there. It is tight as ! Hence why I thought maybe you're thinking of the sump plug.

It's cool. The rattle gun doesn't fit, not sure what the mechanic used, maybe he's got a right-angled rattle gun (if there's such a thing). Had to use a rattle gun to loosen the sump plug so I assumed he did everything up that way. The air ratchet gun fits easily but won't budge the filter cover. Guess a need a longer handled breaker bar... :)

Grab a 12" shifter and see if the hole in the handle (where you would hang it up from) will fit over the breaker bar. If it does then you can use it for extra leverage. If it doesn't then try a ring spanner but be careful not to snap the ring on the spanner. A piece of pipe over the handle of the breaker bar can also work. Hope this helps

The tighter the filter the harder they grab hold

Filter cover has 1/2 drive square in it and it is suppose to be only tightened to 25 Nm.
It is possible that it was fitted dry and overtightened as well.
It wiil need a bit of impact to loosen but carefull approach is needed as both housing and filter cover are alumminium and will crack easily if too much force is used. It will cost $$$$$ if that happens.

Tap on the end of breaker bar might give it enough shock to loosen but the thread might already be damaged by than. Take care when imposing undue force.

I had this issue when my 2006 Gu 3.0 was relatively new. My mechanic tried then quit because he was worried about breaking an expensive part. He sent me to the Nissan dealer and they got it off--not sure how, but since then it seems to be a non issue. May be cheap insurance to have the dealer do it. :-((

Big ass breaker bar is what I used on mine with a bit of brute force and ignorance!

Just don't break it as i believe the housing is a few hundred dollars.
