Hi guys.... so my first question is about oil filters. Did a search on here too and seems a lot of people as confused as i am. Have a td42 1998 gu dx patrol. Was non turbo but has a turbo kit on it now. I did an oil amd filter change right after i bought it. Book in super cheap said z115 filters so i put 2 x on. It had nissan ones on there before and the ryco and nissan ones are the same size. Looked up ryco site and it reckons z503. So got 2 of those to swap em and they are shorter than the 115s and the nissan ones that were on there when i bought it. So question is does it matter which i use? 503 or 115? Can i cause any engine damage buy using the wrong one? Cheers :)

Have you out them on?? Mine has 2 different filters, one of each. Some models use 2 the same and others 2 different, but I'm pretty sure they won't screw on if you have the wrong ones. As mine you clearly can't screw on the wrong one.

As Sooty says you can’t interchange them, they have a different thread size. Mine has 2 x z503, but there doesn’t seem to be a discernible pattern as to when two the same or two different were fitted. Only way is to remove what you have & if both threads are the same they’ll be Z503, or if two different threads it’ll be one of each.

They list both for the patrol. As you note only difference is the 115 is 22mm longer. There should be no problem using either.

The 2 different filters only came on the 99-01 td42t non intercooled models.

Cuppa, the thread sizes are the same on Z503 & Z115

I believe the non turbo TD42 used the Z115 and Turbo TD42s used the Z503, something to do with building pressure faster from what I've read.

Hmmm, I stand corrected. Is there another combo of filters used? A Z503 + something else. I was sure some had a different thread.

Ah, here we go - different filters listed for TD42T 2000 to 2007 A Z503 & a Z416. These do have different thread sizes. And regardless of what the Ryco catalogue (& other brands catalogues) says, my 2006 has both the same - 2 x Z503. Couldn’t fit a Z416 if I wanted to. It still seems that Nissan chopped & changed with what they supplied & seems to vary within each model year.
Basically the only way to know is to check what you have. I went through this for my first oil change. Living well out of town, & unable to see what filters were fitted before they were removed the only option I had was to buy 2 x Z503 & 1 x Z 416 to cover both options.

And just for fun this link, also on the Ryco web site differs slightly from those above!

Yeah you weren't incorrect with your statement cuppa. I don't know why they list it until 07 as they only run the 2 different filter setup for a short period. As I said above it was only on the factory turbo engine across those particular years. The NA engine which was sold at the same time still retained the 2 same oil filter setup.

I really don't like some of those catalogues. I stick to mostly Donaldson or fleet guard.
