Big tyres on the barn door.

Hay all
Im going to 35" tyres ( looking at Honkook Dynapro Mt If any1 has some feed back on them). Im not real keen on the bigger wheels on the barn door whithout trying to brace it up a bit. Iv got a MCC duel wheel bar on the back but i dont realy wonna put the arm on full time ( had one crack with wknd Play all the time). has any1 found a good way to brace the door, or what have you done to help stop the door from bending or cracking??

I run the Hankook MT in 35's and they are pretty good all round IMHO.
I'd buy them again at the price I paid (sure wasn't retail)

Wow you must be giving the car a flogging to brake one of the swing away setups. Or it was crap to start with..

When the carrier is shut is the middle supported well??

I suggest welding up the carrier again and maybe bracing it somehow. The GU's do not have a very strong door (don't know about GQ). My GU had a big crack in door and it only had a 7.50R16 on split rim. They are heavier than solid wheels.
My car did not look like it had done any off road either so if your wheel/tyre combo is heavy the door will not handle it very well.

Yeh iv heard that the doors tend to crack. was just seeing if anyone had any good idears on how to stop it. I got a MCC rear bar now with duel swing, but i do do a bit of rough driving So ??

Normally I'd be happy to do so but in this case it won't help you I'm afraid.

Hankook over here decided to take over the distribution 'in house' so a lot of places had stock to clear at some very very attractive prices.
All over and done now.

I strap a casing to the spare mounted on the barn whenever I head north (of Adelaide). Travelled thousands with it hanging off the back of the spare. Done it with my first two Patrols, both GU wagons. Yet to do it with my new one (2013 GU wagon - again!). Never had any problems with the door. No sagging, or signs of fatigue in any way. The spare is a BF Goodrich A/T on a CSA steel rim. The casing is the same as the spare, BFG. Might not be the same weight as what you're proposing but none the less.....
