Hey all, I have a bit of a noob question here.

Late last year I put on 33" tyres on 15" rims. Since then my default stock Nissan bottle jack can't reach the height required to jack the Patrol up to change tyres etc. Next weekend I am lifting her (it's a 2" suspension lift).

I have no idea what jack I'll need to get to do the job, as I want to do a tyre rotation and obviously want one in the truck in case I ever get a flat. Obviously I'll need something over 2 ton (thinking getting a 3 ton to be safe), but not sure on the height I'll need the jack to be able to lift the truck too.

Also was thinking of a trolley over a bottle. However I like the idea of having a bottle for the truck while travelling and a trolley for the shed.

Any help would be appreciated.

Suspension lift doesn't change the height of the axles. My stock jack will allow me to change 33s. I think if it's not far off it you would be better to keep the stock jack and carry a small block of wood to space it up if you need to.
But a trolley jack for the shed is a winner

Better off getting a 20 tonne hydraulic less effort a nice thick base plate
I threw my OE jack away useless IMO
and agree a trolley jack at home the bigger the better

I was looking at them on ebay, while I don't have an air compressor in the Patrol yet, it's no the to-do list. They are pretty decently priced too.

The smaller 1500kg trolley style are ok but a truck one would be ideal.
Maybe even a second hand one at home

Yep as Winnie said, standard bottle jack works fine for me, also running 33s. 2t trolley jack at home and 4 jack stands for when I'm rotating tyres

No we currently only have the 1 vehicle, wife isn't decided on what type of vehicle she wants next. Just browsing on ebay, got any suggestions?

It is, but has a similar max and min lifting height as the one I posted. Only downside of that one is it's a pick-up only. That's close to a hour hour trip for me. Factor in fuel and the other one is better value, even if it's almost $20 more.

If I go off the axle it will change 33s as well, I was just always told to go off the chassis. I suppose pretty much all the weight of the 4WD is on the axles anyway, so lifting it won't be any different.

Oh man go off the axles. If you go off the chassis you have the flex of the suspension also and I'd bet that even a fair few trolley jacks wouldnt work

Trolley jack. Great for lifting, perfect for home use in sheds and driveways. Not good on uneven surfaces. Not good for packing and travelling.

High lift jack. Good for high lifting from the bars. Lots of lift. Great for packing and travelling. Can be used to push or pull (as a winch). Can be very dangerous if used incorrectly.

Exhaust jack. Good height, great for muddy, messy, bogs. Super light weight and packs small for travelling.

Whatever you end up with. Make sure it means Australian standards.

I would never ever trust that. The whole point of jack stands is to remove the potential of mechanical failure

My Nissan jack won't lift my car with 3" lift and 33's as I found out at Cameron's corner when I left my block of wood home on the patio table, Darren's exhaust jack worked till it burst lol.

At the last after market auto show I attended a guy had quick action trolley jacks for $250 rrp
Now this show is on again on the 17th of April I could ask for a price on 10 units if anyone is interested.

If anyone is interested in going I have spare tickets

I've been actually thinking about getting something similar to this jack
http://www.roadrunneroffroad.com.au/2000kg-Aluminium--Steel-Low-profile-High-lift-garage-racing-trolley-car-Jack.html

I like the fact that it can do 2000 kg's and it only weights 28kg
