View Full Version : Which Snorkel?

I'm looking at snorkels for my GU, I'm looking at cheapie ebay versus expensive Safari. I have fitted two previous ebay cheapies and one Safari and they seemed very similar. In all cases, the templates didn't line up very well but other than that they seemed basically identical. What do people recommend?

I have a GQ, and I am planning on buying one of those $95 ones off Ebay. I see no reason to fork out for the expensive types when they are all made of the same material and do the same job, only way I would personally spend a bit of money on a snorkel was if I was making a stainless custom one.

I went with a safari one on my GQ, I thought about a cheap one, but didn't want to risk poor fit or quality. Entirely possible the cheap ones could have been fine, but I didn't want to take the chance.

Very happy with the safari, fits tightly against the panel, and has a great solid look.

U have the cheap eBay one and have no complaints at all. Does the job it is intended for. Just make sure it is sealed properly and bobs your uncle.

Thanks for the replies, I reckon I will go with the ebay cheapie, I don't mind if it doesn't quite fit the guard as well.

For $95 (GQ) you can't complain. As long as it's sealed and does the job that is all that really matters. I'll probably use a cheapie for a few years then make a custom stainless one up once my to-do list on her drops.

I picked up a 2nd hand safari on ebay in new condition off ebay, can be a pain to source a template though.

I can scan my template and send it to you if you like. The cheapies look like direct copies of the name brand snorkels so it is probably pretty close. Having said that, the last time I fitted a Safari snorkel the template was at least 10mm off (and I taped the template to the guard to make sure it wouldn't move!)

If it is the same snorkel as mine, I found an installation video here:
