Hello guys!
I have wrestled with a question for a while now and have not found any reliable data about it from the web and since I havent got an opportuniti to do any real life observation it has become an issue. So I thought you could know the answer.
I have a lwb gq from 1997 with 4.2 litre diesel engine and it has five speed gearbox. The problem is with the driveshafts, the front one is allready ready to go to its retirement and the rear one is almost there. My question is: Can I pick one from some other patrol or even from an other four by four or is the only fit from the same make and model that I have.

Cheers...

What's actually wrong with it mate?? The bearings and caps are all replaceable.

But if you need to replace I think the 2.8 diesel ran a smaller uni face.
But any thing from a 4.2ltr engine, gq or gu, should fit.
But a new bearing kit will probably be cheaper anyway. And quite easy to do with some basic tools.

Those uni joints are ok. The problem is the place where you can pull it into two pieces. This part of the shaft is so badly worn out that it does not stay in the centre and it causes a bad vibration while driving. The front one is so badly worn that while shakeing it sideways by hand it, so to say, bends about 2-3 cm-s from the middle, where the one end of the shaft goes into the other one. Hope you understood what I meant.

Yes the slip joint has worn out, Any gq shaft should fit, here a ft shaft is $50 and a rear$100 second hand, so not really worth fixing.

I was also thinking that geting a second hand shafts is the easiest and the cheapest way to go. But because there are not too many gq-s sold as spare parts around here I was wondering if the shafts from oler or newer patrols will also fit.
