..so just had my full service done on the truck plus the 80lt long range tank added - She feels like new - Always nice driving home afterwards..

my MAF sensor needs attention as they think this is what is increasing my fuel consumption.. not sure what to do here.. replace it or try that cleaning thing?

anyway said that the truck is pretty tidy and no major concerns with it at all so that makes me happy. Fuel tank of petrol and will see what consumption is like at the moment..

PS - those 80lt long range tanks are bloody huge!

The ECU self learns as you go so after cleaning the MAF disconnect th Battery for 30 Minutes to an Hour. Probably does not require that long but its better to err on the safe side

Nice offer from 3D there... once you see how simple it is you'll be happy to do it yourself.

deleted the rest, I was jibbering about the wrong engine

3D will message you and thanks!

Why do you disconnect the batteries?

Is the MAF sensor the black box or the metal pipe or both?

That's it mate. Just remove and clean. Looks like a gq if I am correct.

thanks mudski - not sure what model that is but my truck is a 98 GU 4.5

i'm thinking about learning how to do this myself.. is it just the black box or the whole unit that i clean with MAF cleaner? i've watched a few you tubes clips where some just do the black box part and others do the metal section..

It is the Little Black Box attached to the Brown Connector.
You have to undo the Screws and remove from the Housing and spray the Wire on the Tip. (Do not touch the Wire
Let it Dry before replacing.
By disconnecting the Battery you erase the self learned codes re Fuel delivery.

well i managed that ok - took the black box out and sprayed those two wire bits and the rest of the unit - then got a little excited and pulled the metal housing off with the honey comb filter and sprayed the metal strips and the the filter.

it all looked pretty clean but thought now i've removed it all might as well spray it with the cleaner..

reconnected the battery and went for a test drive and all seems good so far - fingers crossed i notice some difference over the coming weeks..

thanks for the advice everyone and thanks 3D for the offer of help// i appreciate it!
