IMO its all down to tyre size and tread pattern as well
EG around town I get 12/100 with 285 mud 40psi
if I fit 265 hwy 40 psi that could come down to 10/100
A lot of ifs
mine is an auto as well
towing a small camper I get 15/100/
there is a thread on this somewhere

Most of them are comparing different engines and petrol vers gas etc, not much on there about the zd30's

You'll find the CRD are a tad thirstier,
Boots just travelled to the meet up and returned 10/ 100 ks Di ZD30
which is about right with stock tyres , boots' motor has 130k on it
mine has 220 but still feels brand new IMO

Thanks, I think a CRD would be out of my price range, and I have also read as you've stated they use more juice...

Only a little bit more for the CRD's ... probably 0.1 - 0.2 Litres per hundred on both of my CRD's over both my Di's.....

Much prefer the CRD though, even though they don't have as much top end power as the DI's...

Skid,

Mine will give me somewhere between 13 - 14 Litres per hundred for most driving situations, except towing and heavy sand. Typically around 13.3 LPH driving around town, and I run 33s, winch, lift and barwork, leave all my recovery gear in my drawers, etc.

No difference in town or on the highway, except travelling over 110 Klms per hour will tend to use more. Not that I travel that fast anyway, and the sweet spot ( if you could be bothered ) would probably be around 90 Klms .... I just drive and set the cruise control on 100 .....

This is one sand example for you .....I have 176 Litres of Diesel available, and didn't use all of that in the Simpson, even playing on Big and Little Red.... generally pretty good conditions though. We were in a party of three vehicles from Birdville, all the way through the Hay River Track, Plenty Highway till we diverted down through one of the station properties ( with permission ) down to Ruby Gap, and then to Alice without filling up, so economy was pretty good ( and then even drove around for a few days till I could be bothered filling up ... it was low though ). Couldn't compare to the others in our party on the way over as the 100 Series cruiser had a fuel leak, and the GQ TD42 had to fill up at a couple of locations due to a smaller tank.

On the way back across the Simpson, the conditions were again fairly easy as the ranger was considering shutting down the roads if they had of had a little more rain, and on this run the CRD was more frugal than the others in our party - a GQ TD42 and a 100 Series Diesel, but not by massive amounts ... I think it was 5 litres or even a little less than the GQ TD42 on the way back across the Simpson from Mt Dare to Birdsville, and the cruiser was a little more again. Everyone was very happy about their fuel economy, and we all had miles extra fuel

I have noticed that sometimes up in the High Country I will use a little more leaving it in Low Range all the time, but not that much that I have bothered to calculate, so I can't help you too much with that.

I hope that helps a little.....
