Hi Guys. Just wanted to make sure that my perception is correct. When upgrading your diff gears, its always has to be both front and rear right?

Definitely gotta keep the ratios the same, if you want to use it as a 4wd

Yes mate if you are changing ratio then yes if you are putting in lockers no.

Sorry for seeming ingnorant,. But what what do you mean by putting in lockers?

Diff lockers. Makes them a solid drive, no slip.

Yes Stropp was a little vague there. So fundamentally No Matter What! You Must swap both front and back diff centres to matching ratios. No Matter What. Un-matched ratios would be immediately catastrophic.

Stropp meant if you were fitting a diff lock then you don't have to fit one to the front and the back, you could do either, or.

Regardless, the diff ratios Must Match front and rear.

Diff ratios must remain the same between the front and the rear otherwise the two axels will e rotating at different speeds resulting in "transfer windup", which will destroy your transfer case. For this same reason, you must use same outer diameter tyres on all wheels and never drive on high traction surfaces such as bitumen in 4WD
