took 8 weeks but 2 weeks of that was the Christmas break,so i am pretty happy with that, just one question for those that have fitted these is what is the aluminum plate with 2 bolts attached for?? oh and the quality is second to none, after the recent bad publicity i was a bit concerned, but it is perfect,a big thanks to CRAIG and the team at cross country

Sorry carn`t help with the plate but you should have it figured out over the weekend.
Sorry I didn`t catch up over New Year as we were pushed for time. I didn`t even get to the docks to check out the boats.

Good to hear you are happy with the Cross Country I/C. Wait until you get it on the car and tune it.

I have one on my 3.0 litre and not only does it look great, it certainly made a big difference (mind you the old one was leaking) in performance.

Gawd!.........

What Mudski said X 2 you can buy a petrol GQ for that.
Sorry but way overpriced IMO seeing cores are only $100
Too bad they are the only ones making a larger IC

Only heard good things from the ppl who have fitted them

Good luck buying a new pwr core for $100!

threedogs
23rd January 2015, 10:31 AM
Nah you got me wrong just blank cores are cheap, but you'll have good results as most here have
some have had minor fitting issues, but overall a good product

tassie wombat
23rd January 2015, 10:53 AM
Yep hoping the results are as good as what people are saying,no they're not cheap, but the last pwr core( bare no tanks etc) that a friend brought for his mates Mazda sports sedan was about $500 from memory,so that along with the cost of the scoop pipes and hoses, fan etc etc, plus the hours to build it at workshop rates along with the many hours of r & d that would have gone into building something that works as well as people are saying I don't consider them to be over priced but that's only my opinion though each to their own.

I take it you have EGT gauge fitted it would be good to see before and after EGTs once you have it fitted

tassie wombat
23rd January 2015, 11:55 AM
Yes mate I can do that, there's 1 particular hill that I can get 550'c all the time,so it will be interesting.

That scoop comes from fairline fibreglass in Nsw I think, its about $300 .might not be using mine yet as I've got a Colorado one already fitted??

The A.R.E Scoop is 76mm high and very pricey around the $600 mark

Got any pics of the colly scoop mate. I will probably need to widen the inlet on mine when I ever get this TD build started. Just looking for ideas.
I hope you see real beneficial results with this IC. As for that money I may have gone the w2a path. May have...
But a big ass IC and scoop to match does look the goods.

I didn't notice much power difference with my CC and Ultimate scoop BUT the EGT's are lower and come down a LOT quicker. 542985429954300

Yeh intercooler will only drop egt's no improvement in power.

Yeh intercooler will only drop egt's no improvement in power.

I thought the whole reason for an intercooler was for power increase?

tassie wombat
26th January 2015, 09:00 AM
The main reason I changed the intercooler was to drop the egt's,but now I should be able to squeeze a bit more out of the old girl hopefully?

HuskyInAuz
26th January 2015, 09:14 AM
With the IC alone a bit given the cooler air (O2) is denser. Pulling the CT up some long haul hills in QLD (20% grade) EGT's were kept below 900F (482C, USA AutoMeter pyro) the water temp went through the roof.

tassie wombat
26th January 2015, 09:26 PM
Had first test drive today,a lot more intake/turbo noise, fair bit more responsive, bit more power also, egt's marginally better, but not heaps maybe 25'c ? I didn't expect too much until it's tuned though, just need to find someone down here that knows what they're doing.Anyone got any recommendations?

mudski

Well it is, indirectly. Larger ic equates to lower egt's, which equates to you being able to squeeze more ponies from the engine

tassie wombat

Bit of an update, decided to up the boost a little bit, from 12 to 14 psi,the hill that I always get 550'c + now only just touched 450'c will still have a go at tuning it myself once I've got an afr meter and the attachment for the dial indicator to check timing(with a bit of instruction of course)

How do u rate that new flash intercooler of urs? Worth the extra dollars?

Winnie

Having lower EGTs means you can pump more fuel in = more power.
Cooling the air makes it denser too, so you do get a minimal power increase. Similar to driving a turbo car on a fresh cold morning and a stinking hot day, it will go better in the cooler weather.

threedogs
12th February 2015, 04:15 PM
so overall are you impressed or is it just the start of more mods to get it up and going??
if you only get 25C lower EGTs , a tune up might be the go, Lucas should know
someone down your way

tassie wombat
12th February 2015, 04:31 PM
Hopefully it's just the start, ufi 18g turbo and 12mm pump, just need to get over 2 hurdles, finance and the missus! But fairly happy at the moment, quality of the cooler is excellent, and now I've upped the boost to 14psi the egt's have dropped by about 100'c so yes I would do it all again on another vehicle.

12th February 2015, 04:35 PM
Yeah all boils down to that financial minister eh lol
100c sounds well worth it and yes a stepping stone to more mods
Better start a build thread just in case it gets out of hand lol
