Hi Jay,
LEDs will certainly put out a lot of light but still don't project it as far down the road as halogen or HID.
what sort of spotties do you have? I have a spare one after breaking the other and so I got a replacement set of Nitestalkers from super cheap. Cost me $120 for the set and do a fairly decent job.
Cheers,
Rob

My other question should of been, what do you want to light up? Long distance for highway driving or short dicta nice for night time 4WDing?

Something that's more distance for the highway, hence the spot not flood.

Go hid or halogen then. Although I have a 240w light bar and two 185w led spotties and its more than enough light on the highway ay night. But I still dont get the distance of the hid's.
Edit. That led bar you have pictured. I use the exact same one as a reverse light. You will be disappointed if you had those as driving lights.

How much in involved with the hid, is it just replacing the loom..

I had IPF800'S. The ballasts were small enough to fit in the light so all I had was two wires coming out the light and they fit directly into the old loom.
If you decided to convert to hid. Dont but the cheap kits. The globe takes longer to warm up, the ballasts are much noisier and the light output is garbage. I spent $150 on a 70w 4300k kit when I converted mine. The result was very good.

Jay cee do you have the factory bar as in you dont have much room to fit Driving lights.
I have new 9" x 55 watt 6000K Hid but may not be what youre after, they have a clear blue ring that lights up with the parkers if desired
$150 a pair if you like them.
I originally used two spread they were that good but changed to two spot cause I can lol

I put a set of these on my Tarmac rally car last weekend, couldn't be happier.
Build in ballast, neat and tidy wiring to the hi beam and all set to go.

if you have spotties {halogen} you could buy a slimline HID kit and fit them yourself.
Slimline is just the size of the ballast, colour wise 6000K is a nice white light with just a hint of Blue.
The blue helps cut through the air.

As mudski has mentioned earlier, I don't want to get a crap kit. If I can $$$ wise would like to upgrade the hi/lo beam lights as well. What have people found to be good value.

HID headlights are on the way out I think and 72watt LEDs with a fan for your hi/lo requirements are the go
Stropp just fitted them and some LED 9" driving lights.
LED have a long way to go to get distance but give out a great white spread of light.
All my HID kits have cost $100 and under and still going strong 4 years later. even all my "cheap"
interior led's are still working "every" globe on my patrol are either led or HID

You can get the same in 9 inch and they all come with clear plastic clip on covers. I think the 9 inch are only $20 more.

Got to test these out last week, top vid is with them fitted and bottom vid is same track but without the spotties
The beam is mint, I think in real life they are spread a bit more but the cam is spot focused at 30m infront of my car so it seams a little closer. Lights are mounted about 15cm apart due to lack of space which isn't ideal either IMO
Mind a bit of language if you watch to the end, I get a bit excited.

I've been thinking about what to do about lights.
First I wanted to remove the spotlights, (well what's left of them) off the bull bar and run hid in the factory headlights with a hi/low conversion and a led light bar on the rack after reading and goggling a bit I've discovered that this not a good idea as the reflection glass doesn't work well with hid.
I want to have better driving lights don't need to blind the crap out of everyone.
One of my headlights looks newer than the other. Will this made a difference?
Will bigger bulbs work or a wiring upgrade be better, then there's led bulbs???
Will get some pics of the lights up.

Mate I've put a set of osram night breaker 4000ks in and upgraded the wiring with relays and honestly the difference is night and day. You're welcome to check mine out next time we do a night drive
Also I've still got a few sets of driving lights you are welcome to. One has a broken lense but I think its the same pair as yours so you can pick and choose
Edit: and yes maybe we should organise a night drive soon

Mate I would just put new reflectors in, do the wiring loom upgrade and put bigger globes in, it makes a massive difference.

Cut and polish the glass on your headlights, that will remove a lot of small pit marks
