Hi mate, I also did the conversion a few years ago, haven't looked back the best thing I have done to the car - love it.
Here's a link to mine http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/showthread.php?5432-Diesel-conversion-(TD42-from-TB42)
and to Jonathons conversion which he has just finished. http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/showthread.php?28933-EFI-to-Diesel-conversion
Feel free to post or PM any questions as you go, good luck, I'm sure you'll be happy with the result.

Just to narrow down your question, I bought mine as a kit off Patrolapart supplied with all the things needed.
You will need, motor (of course), bell housing and starter motor (bell housing will bolt up to gearbox, same slave cylinder), alternator with vacuum pump and vacuum reservoir and lines, radiator (I think shrouds are the same, but may as well grab one if you can), fuel lines, fuel filter assembly, fuel tank, instrument cluster and the loom is optional. It's a little bit of work putting the loom in, is a factory finish, or you can just get away with modifying your existing wiring, the TD's are pretty simple.

Thanks heaps guys I'll check out all the links and sure I'll find what I'm looking for, so are the fuel lines different from petty to diesel? Are the starters different that's a bugger I not long ago got a new starter motor haha aw well I'm getting the motor loom Bellhousing and cluster it has the alternater with vacum pump and fuel filter assy not sore I it has a starter motor it doesn't have a radiator so I'll have to get one alloy or copper better?
Cheers for all your help guys

Also can someone please post a pic of where the vacuum reservoir is so I can send it to my mate as he's not 100% sure what it looks like
Cheers

My car was a tb24e and I did not replace fuel lines.. I just made sure I blew air down the lines to get rid of the petrol and pulled my tank out and gave it a good clean with diesel.

Yeah what BA said, i just blew out lines along the chassis. When i said fuel lines i was refering to the ones that run along the firewall from the filter assembly to pump. There are two different setups tho, if you look at BA's his has the filter located near the battery on the right hand side, later models had these.
Starter is definatly different, need a big one to start a diesel.
I can put up a photo of the vaccum res later but it is a black can, on the left guard, should be able to follow the lines back from the back of the alternator.

My donor is out of a ute will that matter with the wiring?
Cheers for your help guys

The carb model sender is the same as the diesel and the filler is no different.
As for wiring that all depends on what set up you have... you have not mentioned (unless I missed it?) if your car is efi or carb?
Now I changed loom so I just plugged and played but Rossco and GQjett had to modify there wiring to make work and Rossco had a carb and GQjett had efi so you need to talk to them.

I am told its is pretty simple to wire up but speak to either Chappy (Gqjett) or Rossco on how to.

sorry to bring up an old thread but I got this conversion done and have since have had no tacho. does anyone have a solution to this. I would prefer to have the original tacho work then having to mount an aftermarket one...
Tried searching the from but didn't get any results

Hi mate, you can get the tacho working, but will need a td one in the cluster. I got patrolapart to do mine but it's pretty simple, just need to run a wire from the back of the tacho to the engine speed sensor on the front of the motor.
GQJett wired his up himself, give him a PM or pretty sure it's in his thread.
