Hello, bowerbird, and welcome to the forum. Have you checked the panhard rod bushes, All eight radius arm bushes, and the wheel bearings for movement? I use a crowbar to test for movement.

havnt checked panhard bushes, but interestingly enough the shakes started exactly after Nissan serviced the thing. they said they adjusted one of the front bearings. when I got home I grabbed the tyre and rocked the wheel in and out. on the one they said they adjusted there was no feeling of play. in the LH front one I could feel play. Maybe that's it. But it must be in spec because they checked it.

Welcome mate. Yep I'd re tighten those bearings asap.
And when a shim is the answer to the wobbles it's usually a good sign that the bearings are worn.
King pin bearings aren't that hard of a job. And quite cheap.
I hope you kept track of where you pulled the shims from thou so you can reinstall with new bearings??

Yep if the kingpin bearing is not worn removing a shim will mask the problem so just make sure everything else is Mickey Mouse or by removing the shim you will put too much pressure on the bearing.
