Had the GU serviced today 190k ish. The dealership said no probs but wanted to do an injector clean. Cost $300.00 but could do it today for $290.00.
Declined but was wondering what is a $300 injector clean and how often it should be done. Motor is a 3L DI as stated 190 k. Over the last three months I have changed out the break fluid, coolant, fitted a new intercooler and cleaned the MAF. No issues, no symptoms, do I need an injector clean?

I'm interested to know how they do it as well as they offered it to me once when they were servicing my car.
I normally run a batch of Flashlube through mine every few tanks and... Hope it works lol.

I just use a bottle of injector cleaner in the fuel tank every now and again, about $15!

I use the Flashlube Diesel conditioner as well, but I have a CRD so there is no cleaning or maintenance required.
I have heard of dealers offering a service where they remove the injector and let it soak in a weak solvent. This is not injector servicing though so may just be a bit of a rip off. On the other hand, when does the service manual state that the injectors should be cleaned and tested. This would be a lot more expensive than $300 as they have to check the spray pattern and volume that goes through the injector.

That's what I thought... To me seemed a bit cheap? I'm under the impression removing and re-fitting the injectors is a big job, and I think the injector lines/tubes need to be replaced once they are cracked open. I think I've read this somewhere on this forum. And especially at a dealer, this would cost a fair bit of $$$.

Thanks all-I think I made the correct decision in letting it go through to the keeper. Will put a cleaner through it from time to time. I think they were a bit peed off because I did my own intercooler and MAF clean.

They can do an injector clean and decoke the cylinders with a machine but I wouldn't bother, injector clean and a bit of welly will do for me.

Well said.
Do you know if this is done on the car or do they rip the injectors out and do it on test bench ?
