Hi,

I have a GQ with a Turbo 2.8 engine that I have fitted a Scotts Rods 3" exhaust too,

I noticed when I towed my speed boat last that the heat from exhaust tip has melted my tail light, the top 5mm maybe sits just behind bar.

should it be getting this hot??

Thanks
Ash

Yes Ash,

It will be hot enough to melt plastic, especially under heavy loading like towing, as the exhaust will be designed to pull the heat away from the block and pistons ....

The exhaust temperature leaving the turbo will be around 500 - 600 Degrees, and gets pushed out fairly fast, so won't actually cool down enough to not melt the plastic.

Funny my TD4.2 with a straight through 3 inch system with turbo you can grab the end of the exhaust no problem... when it was in NA form it could melt the sun it got so hot.

is that when towing though Bloodyaussie??

I don't have a EGT gauge so wasn't sure if normal or because it was spooling for a lot longer than normal due to towing boat?

next step is to find a way to get a bit more go so it gets up to speed quicker and spools less if that makes sence.

towing will put extra loads onto the motor there by making it work harder
and this will cause temps to rise. If you are really concerned fit an EGT gauge and drive via the gauge

My exhaust was occasionally blowing soot onto the caravan and yes - the rubber rock tamers were getting hot as well. To fix this I had a 90 degree bend put in the end of the pipe so that the exhaust blows out the side past the mud flap, and now there are no more problems.

X 2 was going to suggest buy a dump pipe to suit your system and all should be good .
If you had it fitted take it back and get it modified

$30 at your local exhaust place should be enough for you to get an angled piece welded on.
