Hi all! I'm hoping someone may be able to help us by imparting some knowledge. We had set off on our holiday before xmas and only got 50km out the road and our vehicle shut down. We had the vehicle towed back to Nissan and they come back to us and said that the injectors need replacing at a cost of approx $6,000. Our vehicle is only just out of warranty by a few months and we previously had issues with the fuel system which was fixed under warranty.

We're in Darwin and have been told by the local dealer that the injector faults has been a common issue lately and that Nissan has previously offered to contribute to some of the costs. The Nissan dealer is surprised that in our case Nissan has decided not to show any goodwill especially when the vehicle is only just out of warranty and has only travelled 85,000km.

Has anyone else had these issues? Is this a common Nissan vehicle thing? Does anyone have any suggestions on what course of action we could take? I'm assuming we will have to go to consumer affairs but would really like to avoid this avenue if need be.

We're really upset with Nissan that they are offering no assistance for a virtually new vehicle that has been well looked after and regularly serviced as per log book.

I've hit 90k and have yet to have an injector issue.
Pretty shit being less than 100k old and just out of warranty.
Do injectors cost that much or is it the labour or have the faulty injectors caused bigger problems.

First off, I must say that I've not heard of faulty injectors being even an uncommon problem in the CRD Patrols.
I sold mine with nearly 160,000 K's on it and there are heaps of guys on here with over 100K's on CRD's.

I know it doesn't help you but I took the extended warranty on my truck and advise anyone reading this thread to do the same

The injectors are Bosch and are not unique to to Nissan engines and are used all around the world
The only time Bosch injectors have failed prematurely to my knowledge is due to contaminated fuel and if the fuel filters etc have been serviced regularly even that is rare.
Is the truck a Darwin "born and bred" vehicle and is it possible you got bad fuel?
If you have had the truck since new and full service history with Nissan I would be contacting Nissan Australia in person and asking the Dealer to fight it for you as well.
If that fails I'd even try a chat to Bosch, who knows, they may spring for part of teh cost.
If I was Bosch and the injectors were a "problem" as Nissan Darwin says then I'd be all over them wanting to know why.

I have read a few thread on the other patrol forums with injector failures... From memory, all were in the outback and copped bad fuel.

To the OP. Since fuel system was fixed prior, could there be warranty on THAT job, even though the cars main warranty expired ??
Maybe have a look into that.

Damn, thats a darn good price.

I have never had to buy them, and that price was from 2013 but I wouldn't think it would have changed too much .... www.nizzbits.com.au

Patten,

Unless you picked up dirty fuel, it is unusual for all injectors to go faulty together ....

I picked up dirty fuel in my V6 VS Calais, and that ended up costing over $2000, and that was petrol.

Sorry to hear about your problem.

First, try for warranty. Nissan aren't known for the charity. You'll need to negotiate well.

Second, if you're paying for the work, don't go to nissan. Their expertise lies in extracting your hard earned cash. The Darwin dealer isn't known for their mechanical ability.

Third, after fixing the problem get a secondary fuel filter. There are three basic types:

Water watch - not a filter, but an alarm when water is about to enter the fuel system.

Pre filter with water trap- 30 micron filter for the larger stuff and water.

Secondary filter with water trap - 2-5 micron for water and contaminants.

What sort of fuel do you use? Sticking with the big brands helps but I have heard some of the lesser known brands may mix biodiesel etc in their fuels. For non CRD that would be fine but I think with CRD's you need to keep with the known brands, even if more expensive.

Years ago in Melbourne I used to buy Burmah branded petrol for my VL but when I did a comparison with name brand petrol the car was down on power and economy. It was costing me more to run the car than if I bought the more expensive BP/Shell/Mobile/Castrol petrol.

If your dealer can be believed then maybe the fuel up in Darwin is suspect, as down south its not common to have problems with fuel unless you fill up just after a tanker has been there.

I'd be going to consumer protection for answers on this aswell..especially if your fuel system was playing up and they fixed that under warrenty, could be the cause of the injectors failing.

Thanks for everyone's responses. It's probably given me some much needed information. I think we will consider taking it elsewhere to get repaired if it comes to that and I also thought that because we had fuel system issues previously that it maybe linked to that. The fuel was checked when we had the previous fuel system issues and the recent occurrence but Nissan couldn't find any water or issues with the fuel although the fuel filter this time had contaminates in it.

6g for injectors that's almost what it cost for me me to do the pump injectors and rail and fuel tank on my nav when I got bad fuel. when you had issues before did they remove and chemically clean your tank and fuel lines cause if they didn't I know what has kept going through your fuel system. and as you said take it elsewhere for an opinion and as someone else said 4 injectors going together for no real reason, bollocks you have been led to believe

What repairs to the fuel system were done while it was under warranty? ??
