View Full Version : Kinglake Drive - 10th Jan

Chappy
7th January 2015, 07:10 PM
Hey guys,

As I'm sure the Victorian crew have all seen, we are supposed to have over 100mm of rain between now and Sunday.
I thought it might be a prime time to get a group together and go for a drive in the Kinglake/Toolangi area.

It would be nice to see BA's beast out and about, plus it's a good chance to meet some other members.

I've just fitted some 37s so I'm keen to take them for a spin too!

Chappy???

Would love to, but still have a few things to do to the GQ and other stuff before the Canberra trip, and have just cleaned a heap of mud out of the radiatior. Might have to play it by ear, it's not too far to pop up even for a little bit. . . . I am a sucker for a bash.

Nice, doesn't look too big. Might be able to make it through that bog hole now!! Do they scrub much? Guess need to get a bit of flex to see.

I've cut my guards, I haven't taken them off road yet, but I've smashed them into a few gutters, roundabouts and speed bumps and haven't got them to scrub yet.

Don't stress mate,if we have to drag you up hills we will drag you up hills, I don't mind. The trip will be dependent on numbers. If there's not much interest I'll probably go dirt bike riding up in the Strathbogies. If people are keen let me know.

I'm interested though might go pick up my winch before then who wants to help me fit it before the weekend ?

I'm only running 33 inch muddies and 2 inch lift though

Also if I'm coming I have a mate with 35s and dual lockers that would come but driving a cruiser

@ Jaycee might be a good op to ramp up your skill level a bit . there may be tracks
to by-pass areas and using recovery gear is always good practice.
If you dont have dedicated Mud pattern at least in a 305 you may struggle
on some of the tracks

Toolangi after this forecast 3 months worth of rain would be.. interesting. Last time I was up there, there was no 4x4-ing, only skiing. Like Mudskis car.... Mud ski.

Haha I asked Kate told here we were going 4x4ing in the mud, she said she had better things to do, I asked what? She said anything was better than spending hours battling through sloppy mud.. So while she cleans the house and does the washing I am going 4 wheel driving.. Anyone want to winch bitch for me?

I know that I'm going to slip n slide all over the place, but I have been 4wding before I bought the patrol, but the last one didn't have a winch, so I'm looking forward to gaining some more/different type of recovery skills.

John I'm running 33s but not a lot of tread left if the chicken track is a better option for me I'll take it.

Count me in, would be keen to checkout Kinglake, I have never been 4x4ing in there.

You will love Kinglake Crate, there's some good tracks, especially with the amount of rain - plenty of chances to get out the highmount.

What tyres you getting AB? You can borrow mine for a day if you want . . . .

Being thinking if its a good ideas to go. As much as I want to go, I'm thinking that BA is probably right. My set up is far from being ideal. I've got the confidence to drive, but how far will the patrol go before I will be winching or bring snatched the rest of the day.
I don't mind as it will be a learning one for me(the winching bit), but how do the others feel about a long slow day.

Chappy
8th January 2015, 11:33 PM
I'll be disappointed if you don't come now! Don't stress about how far you'll get. Half the fun is recovering anyway. Nobody is going to mind helping you through the tricky sections. Kinglakes pretty easy anyway.

I just installed my boost gauge, looking forward to testing it out!

Ha Ha, remember that hill, it's a bloody good one, impossible to drive in the wet. That was pretty much straight into it that day. There's a few good pools over the other side towards Mt Robertson.

If it's Sunday I might be able to pop out for a bit, I'll see how I go. . .

Two ways at looking at.
1. Do it prior to avoid having mud fall all over you.
2. Do it after and get rid of all the mud at the same time.
