Hi guys,
I have been calling around for prices on tank checking and what a possible replacement might set me back. I was advised not to expect change out of $1100 for a new tank as the GQ/GU was a large specific fit item. Plus additional replacement vales etc can be a common extra cost. Is that what everyone else has been quoted?
I need to crunch some numbers and see how many km's I will need to travel before that becomes worthwhile and not just throw a petrol tank in.

Leave it with me I'll go get a figure from a mate of mine, so we looking at a 120ltr tank to suit a GU is that right?
It would be cheaper to get your tank tested IMO by a long way

I'm going to climb under tonight and see if I can confirm the size and visual inspection to see if its worth testing. I've never filled it from empty but pretty sure it's 120lt. I believe the model number back in the day for these GQ tanks was D90...
Many thanks

I've been told the cost to test a tank is about $150 if you remove the tank.
costs go up if they take it out and send it off for testing.
By all means remove it yourself but get it re fitted by a qualified installer, you
don't get a second chance with gas.

Not sure where you're located but I had one tested and re-certified for about $200 about three years ago.

I'm in Adelaide. I found a couple of places that would do it for $200 but I had to remove the tank.

as soon as they took the guard off the gas tank there was rust
so didnt go for a test as they said wouldnt get through
the place was alongside gurneys auto center on main north rd enfield
he is his brother so might pay to give him a call to see where he is now
or you can try these people who are very good they have race cars and we use to change the kumo tires for them at mallalar

It not difficult to drop the tank yourself, you will need a trailer however to transport it.
Pull it out yourself ,tested and re-installed by a qualified fitter, $350 tops IMO, wont take them long to
re-install the tank as they have all the gear to do it, Maybe 1hrs labour tops
Remove the bash plate and check for pitted rust marks this will mean you need a new tank.
You should have a gap you can see the bottom of the tank from

I've got my inspection coming up shortly.. If they are going to ping me that kind of cash I'll blow the cash long range petrol tank instead. I don't do the km justify LPG as it is, and more range is always a good thing.

Last tank I got tested was $150 (gas guy in upper dandenong

When I had my MK tank tested, it had some surface rust - resulting i it being condemmed. Replacement test tank from the gas guy was $200.

I refitted the tank my self - and checked for leaks.

OIf you end up changing the tank - take not of the angle of the tank prior to removing it. ( I hve done this on a number of vehicles)
