Hi again
Serious question here and I apologise if this post is in the wrong page.

What is the difference between halogen, LED, and HID when it comes to FWD. I am particularly interested in lights that are practical in fog/cloud, and give great light on High Beam.

What would be recommended on an orginal 1989 Maverick. Replace headlights, add spots. Please help.

HID in Fog/Dust are terrible, there is so much light reflected back you may as well hang a sheet across the windscreen.

In my GQ's I found the following gave the best results;
Quality semi-sealed reflector with +100 halogen globes.
LED Light bar on the roof for offroad
HID driving lights for the bitumen or wide open spaces.

Purely what I found best for me, others will have different opinions

Thank you. We live on a mountain, and more often then not in cloud, so fog lights of some sort is essential. LED bars on the wish list 2x rack, 1 x bullbar. Thank you for you help.

LED bars would be useless in fog IMO
you would need dedicated yellow or 3000K HID
For HWY driving you cant beat HID driving lights
for night driving bush tracks you cant beat the light bars
Halogen is old technology and draws more power than HID and LED.
For you I'd go 90/100 halogen Globes for your head lights
either yellow or blue coloured lights cut through foggy air well.
Light bar on your roof and a decent set of HID driving lights.
Most here would have a similar set up

3000k HID on the list. Thank you.

Agree with TD but don't put 90/100 globes in unless you upgrade the headlight wiring loom.
The factory loom and stalk switches won't handle the current draw.
Indeed a loom upgrade will help no matter which lights you choose
I tried 90/100 and 100/130 and still found the +100 better but that was possibly because of a better reflector.

Why do you want 3 light bars?
A nice 32 to 36 inch on the roof is oodles off-road.
LED on the bull bar won't be any good in fog

I run 55 watt HID IPF's Driving Lights with orange filters when in the WA outback.
I take the filters off for highway use
A 36 inch LED Bar on the roof and +100 lights (in a GU tho).

Fog - just remember every extra bit of light you throw out means more reflected back.
There isn't any way around that but certainly agree lower colour temp helps hence the orange filters I use in the dust

Hi.
He saw the lights on ifish white shark I think. All lights and bling.

His cousins have the bar on the bullbar, but they don't drive in fog. He does back road driving where there is little or no stret lights, then 100m up the goat track and he is fog. Need something to, suit both conditions.

Great whites they are called and about $800 a pair, basically a round light bar IMO.
You need HID to get distance LED cant do that atm close but not yet.
As suggested a 36" light bar on the roof will give great side light as well, it would want to
mine is 240 watts spot beam bar , try not to buy a spread beam as you will lose light.
I think mine is 15 degrees not 100% on that but it is spot that I know, some are combo but
not required IMO

My set up is a 40" LED bar on the roof.
100 watt HID 6000K 9" driving lights
and 75 watt 6000K hi/low beam.
Seriously thinking of fitting some LED headlights but need to do more research ATM

For fog, the only light that will work the best is dedicated fog lights with the yellow lens filters. And mounted as low to the ground as possible to get under the and behind the fog.

Yellow/amber light cuts thru fog thats why street lamps in foggy areas are yellpw/amber in colour.

As said above the hid and led lights give you a white out effect because they are higher up in the colour spectrum. I'm not sure where you live and how many lights you're allowed to have but If I was I your position I would have halogen +100 headlights like et said, a pair of yellow fog lights and either a light bar with spot and spread combo or a spot and spread spotlights pending on how much room you have on your bull bar of course
