Hey Guys,

Weird for me posting about a GQ as I "used" to have a GU but thats another story in itself. So I've now gone from a GU RD28 to a GQ with RD28.

Heres the killer, it spools real slow until hitting full boost at 2800rpm about 10-12 psi. 2600rpm and below it makes 5-6psi and has not alot of go. Was expecting it to be on par with the GU due to a slightly lower weight and no intercooler.

Is there a way to get this baby to boost faster down low to be a bit more driveable? Doesn't appear to have any boost leaks, and I've checked the actuator and it is functioning as it should be, Guess theres some injector pump tweaks to do? Any ideas would be great :D

Cheers guys,
regards,
Eric.

Hi Eric.

What condition is the motor in? Last service, km etc etc.

Check your intake for any restrictions and your fuel system. Also making sure there isn't leaks or air able to be drawn into the fuel system.

Does it blow any smoke? Does it start well?

Mat,

Blows no smoke, starts quite well, Seems to be in overall good shape. Previous owner to this guy might have had a bit of brains about him, got a heater tap on the heater hose to restrict coolant flow through the heater core, custom neat dual battery tray, labels for oil, filters etc. Last guy wasn't that good or cluey but looks to have kept services up.

Saw Paul today, he mentioned about the mechanical pump being able to be adjusted to put more fuel in down low, I reckon there's a possibility that the cluey guy might have tweaked the pump for fuel consumption? My theory at least.

Cheers,
Eric.

Yeah the pumps can be adjusted but defueling a rd28 from factory spec would not really work as they are already a highly strung motor and less fuel would require it to be flogged to get anywhere lol.

I would not make any adjustments unless you have an Egt gauge. I'm gathering you already have a boost gauge by your post.

The other thing to check is the wastegate actuator. Check the lines and its travel. You could use a compressor and use a regulator to check the can. Also you can try holding it shut using some wire or a bolt.

Might try a spring on it, actuator is working fine already had run air through it and checked the arm all moving freely.

Cheers,
Eric.
