How do you video good action shots from inside your 4x4?

Recently took some video of our forum meetup, there were some steep climbs and decents, yet when played back look like we were driving down a suburban driveway.

I know getting shots from outside the vehicle look better but even those don't portray the reality of how steep the track really is.

Any idea's, any professional videographers out there?

OK just to add a bit more.....

If you have watched MotoGP (Motorcycle racing) they seem to have the problem licked, the camera mounted on the back of their bikes used to be fixed, in other words as the bike leaned over so did the camera. Last year they mounted a gyroscopic camera which stays at 90 degrees to the track and it really shows how far over they get their bikes. How can we replicated this for the off road situation?

Hey Spock - same problem for ours so would be mote than interested to get a 'professional' opinion on this one. Dhuck and I did a hill that looked like the stairway to heaven (coz if you saw it, you would think you're going to die for sure!! LOL) and the video/photos show the ruts and shelves but bugger all of how steep it was.

I have a Video of some steep climbs on a trip and to illustrate how steep it was some of the guys got out of the vehicle and it showed them slipping over due to the slope. Another shot is of the guy who was taking the video filming from behind the vehicle as I climbed a Hill. I will try and edit the DVD and Post. Getting pics from inside the vehicle is another matter but one way I have found is to take out the side Window and panning around to the front. Have to have trees to show the steepness.

when you are showing the video to someone, tip back their chair 45 degrees and shake it violently!! That'll give them the picture LOL!

Good question and same problem here.
Not a pro but i think that videos showing offroading must be captured with 2 video cameras - one inside and one outside the trol. Then a little edit to the 2 videos and combine them to show exactly the same track/road/obstacle. Or it may be used one video camera (from inside) and one photo camera (from outside). And editing to combine them in one video.
But i thing that most people take 1 video camera on they trips...

i love my photogrpahy (by no means a 'pro' though) - but i would say the best way is to get the perspective, for example:
- showing the angles againt upright objects, like trees, or people standing nearby
- exploring different angles, like photos from low down angles, looking up/down slopes etc

I hope to get some chance to take plenty of vids/pics of our Patrol in the coming year :)

how about make a basic gyroscope and mount your camera into it
