View Full Version : Centre Seat Options (Fitting all the kids in!)

Hi there, hoping I'm in the right sub-forum here!

Picked up our 2012 Patrol yesterday, paperwork says GU, I have NFI....

Got her home and realised the centre seat is completely useless to me as is. Either need an anchor bolt to tether a baby seat, or a lap/sash belt to keep the 9yo upright in an accident. Or both.

CRAB is not an option for us, as I need to keep the third row to fit 4 kids in (would also prefer to keep one of those back seats empty (and folded) to fit my double pram in... yep, we're breeders.)

Happy to hear from anyone who has sorted out this issue. Would love to see photos of the centre anchor mounted in the roof (curious how the tether runs, does it get in the way of the third row passenger?)

Also recommendations on where to get either of these modifications done/certified in Brisbane or surrounds. Happy to travel if need be (saw on another forum a guy got a lap/sash fitted in Wollongong, so hoping it's an option somewhere out there!)

Cheers, and thanks in advance.

Erin

Due to the 50/50 split, It's always going to be an issue havin a seat tethered in the middle or a proper seat belt. Never understood why nissan didn't change that arrangement years ago. Haven't hear of anyone putting another restraint point on the roof. So unfortunately can't help you. But if it's only kids in the 3rd maybe a Crab bar fitted been rear grab handles might work

Thanks, thought I'd follow up - found a guy yesterday who can do the centre mount on the roof near the back doors (all certified etc) ... Enables me to put a capsule/booster in the middle seat - which will see me through til my youngest is at least 8 years old (The new InfaSecure "Evolve" or "Genesis" booster seat can fit a 12 year old depending on size!) ... Will be looking into a lap/sash down the track but for now I'm happy I can use the seat and leave that second one in the third row for storage (or another kid, haha!)

Thanks for the help.

PS: The man I wound up booking with is Barry Ryan, from Barryan Accessory Fitting on the Northside of Brissy. He's mobile and was recommended by Opposite Lock, for those playing at home.

Just had a chat to Barry's wife.
Unfortunately he has had a fairly severe accident and was unable to chat but his wife informed me that qld are now under the national transport act, under the vehicle safety bulletin (vsb)14, sub lk6 and L licenced installer can install a certified point.
So the point still needs to be engineered but doesn't involve huge costs to install.

I'll keep digging

All sounds good to me mate, as you said in your earlier post it's certified so should be no issues. Not sure what Kallen is asking but I'd assume if it's been certified everything is above board. If you have any doubts check with Barry, I can understand your concern as it's your children.

Yea absolutely. Barry's installs have to be certified by an engineer. So all good.
Nothing to worry about.

Barry has had a hot water accident sorry and is laid up atm, serious burns. Not good. Hope he pulls threw ok.

I've finally had a win for SA but will start a new thread when I have more info.

Phew, thanks - I actually chatted to Barry yesterday before booking in with Carol (his wife) ... they seem like really lovely people. had a good laugh with them. The fact he advertises on his website that his area of interest is Child Restraints really appealed to me. I am very diligent to ensure my kids are all in the best possible configuration so working together with someone who is also informed about the in's and outs is a real bonus :)

Don't want to be rude mate but what's it going to cost you? I'm just wondering as a comparison to the bar style

A quick google says the single point above the rear door is about $250ish through Barry. I'm happy with that (don't need or want a bar, so happy to save the expense at the same time!)

Bloody oath 250 is a bargain. And is perfect for your situation.
