lately my 2.8 td patrol overheats, but only on long drives and when towing load. it boils over at the overflow.. i've replaced the radiator, thermostat and the water pump. only other explanation i could have would be a cracked head. but it has no water in oil or vise versa. just wan some other peoples opinions on this.

Is your viscous fan working correctly.
replace the fluid with Toyota hub fluid'
First is it boiling on the freeway???

Thermostat needs to be OE

you don't need a fan at hwy speeds, there is fluid inside the viscous hub on the fan .
If that fails it'll need replacing thus the Toyota comment as Nissan doesn't sell it..
Does your motor have some sensors one of them maybe faulty.
this is similar to another member but I cant remember what the fix was.

the fan needs to work all the time as if it stalls at hwy speed the fan blades block airflow, it happened to me. It is always a good idea to get a tube or two of toyota silicone fan grease and put it into the fan hub as if its not got the correct amount of fluid it will stall the fan and cause overheating. OE is original equipment so he is saying nissan thermostat.

Have you got anything restricting air flow to the radiator, such as large spot lights? I was also going to suggest removing the radiator ang giving it hi-pressure wash, but you said you have replaced it, was it replaced with a new or an old radiator?

The inner cores may be dirty restricting air flow and prevent it cooling, if it was an old one.

This happened to me after some fun in the mud, I needed to pull out the radiator and give it a good cleaning inside and out, topped with radiator fluid and was good as gold. Just dont forget to tighten all metal hose clamps :)

What sort of front bar do you have?

My arb rip off had steel plates under the bar which restricted the air flow, removing these did wonders and it's never over heated since. I will eventually cut slots in these plates and reinstall... Maybe...

Hello and welcome to the forum. Did you test the thermostat before you installed it? I have installed new thermostats that were defective. Place it in boiling water and watch to see if it opens, and closes again when removed from the water.
