Now that I've got the rack on I was thinking about which side to mount an awning.
What have people found to be better, driver or passenger side and why.

Passenger side so if you stop for lunch it won't open towards the centre of the road.

Passenger side because I've got my shovel and high lift holder on the other side

Mine is on the driver side
Stretch's is on the pass anger side.
So we can make a large area under cover with cars facing the same way.

Mines on the passenger side because I'm a sheep and have no imagination. I'd like to have an ostrich wing on both sides for 360 deg shade

I'll sit on the fence with this one and go the centre. Lol. Just because I only have a rear one.

So far looks like passenger side has it.
Would still like to know why some have it on the drivers side.
Cheers for the input gents.

Over the bonnet, so I can sit on the bonnet and keep warm in winter :)

easy to make a rear one if you have a rack, just rivet some sail track across the back and go from there.
Used this system on my other 4x4 , as I could back up to the fence and watch my kids play cricket.
But a great idea if two are together,

Exactly... what's the worst you're going to have to do? Turn your car around!

Mine is on driver's side for no particular reason at all. I guess I used to park my car against a fence on the passenger's side so I would have had to move the car to mount it there.

If you were going to make a "cuppa" you would pull well off the road into a wayside stop if avialable ,
If you are going to stop "ON" the hwy for a rest, cuppa whatever I have another think about it

Fair point. I see most roof tents fold to passenger side so this would deem the awning useless.
Can the tents be mounted to fold out drivers side?

wouldn't you just rotate them 180 and bolt them at that
personal choice IMO

Of course... I would rather one that opens out the back

I have mine on the passenger side, just because I like it on that side.
I have a roof top tent which I have opening to the rear and a silver tarp which goes from the awing to the end of the tent so I have shade and shelter from the awning around to the back of the troll.

i have mine opening to the rear and just boight a supa peg custom awning wing 180 deg that will open out to the back of the tent when its opened up so no gap left open like with the normal 2.5 x 2.5 awning, i will get some pics up when i get it fitted up.

we have the awening to the left and rooftop sets up out to the right...that way both the windows left and right side andf shade over them when camping..

Cheers all.
I think the passenger side has it, seems to make sense.
