I have owned my GU111 4.2td wagon since new, 10 years old now.
Towing the boat the other weekend i noticed the water temp got a lot hotter than usual,
Is it time to look at getting a new radiator if so what do you guys recommend,
I phoned PWR in Qld & they have one to suit at a cost of $ 1100 supplied only,
Any feedback or info would be great,

Cheers Tonks.

The cheapest option if your current one isn't stuffed or leaking is to probably just get it serviced by a radiator mob.

I have an adrad unit in mine that was a similar cost to what you have got for the pwr. It performs as it should but gauge wise you won't see any difference. Realistically my standard unit probably only needed to be externally cleaned.

Costwise the genuine units are pretty good as like you have pointed you have got a good 10 years out of the one that's in it.

A friend of mine thru my recommendation googled a company...liquid intelligence...an aussie company.
They specialize in automotive cooling problems.
He had the same problem as you, when towing, the temp rose.
He has a 2.8 in a GQ, not known for their cooling compacity.
Liquid intelligence recommend their engine cooling system cleaner be used.
Cooling systems get dirty over time, and that includes the water jackets throughout the engine also.
I cant remember the figures off hand, but for every 1mm of scale on the metal in the motor it reduces your cooling capacity by as much as 30%.
My friend about 3 years ago put in a bigger radiator which fixed the problem at the time, but slowly returned as his motor is 17 years old.
I think he said the cost was around $280, which I think is cheap.
They also make a waterless coolant, but was advised to save costs went for their water based glycol.
He has towed since doing the clean and says all is good.
Hope this helps.
Cheers. Graham

They aren't the most reliable gauges but what does it read?

Welcome to the forum too, throw up an intro about yourself in the introductions section.

most gauges use the half way mark as "normal"
And as AB suggested pop over to the intros and tell
us abit about yourself and your Patrol polite and all
Higher the number the better
