View Full Version : EGT reaching 600+

Hi, I just got home from a weekend away. Had intentions of camping out but the weather forced me into other arrangements but we got some 4wding done and that was great.

I had my 2 adult sons with me and a reasonable load of camping gear and the EGT kept running close to and sometimes over 600degs.

Had to back off the go pedal several times after the alarms went off at 600degs.

I was wondering what I can do to lower the temps. I have been considering the Beaudesert 2.75in exhaust for a while. How much, if any, will that lower the temps. I was driving at 110kph doing 2700revs and EGT was sitting around 500degs.

2008 GU ST 3.0ltr diesel 5spd manual.
Thanks for any advice.
Paul

Yeah that's not good mate. These motors, well pretty much every motor, love a free flowing system from intake to exhaust. But firstly. Has it always done this or has it just started to do this. The answer you give may affect the responses you get.

Not unusual for a CRD. Prior to doing the exhaust, intercooler and the NADs, this is exactly what my patrol was getting in terms of temps. A combination of all those dropped it now to sub-400, compared to prior 550-600 reached with ease.

what boost are you getting at 100 Kph ?

I see those temps all the time when towing, The beaudesert didn't seem to drop the temps but certainly improved performance:)

I too, used to see these temps in my 2011. And according to Nissan is still in the safe zone.
My tyre upsizing was/is the biggest culprit for higher EGT's.

Always been highish temps and does reach 600+ on a long drawn out hill but temps were higher this time because of the load. Just frustrating when you have plenty of pedal left but can't use it.

I've done the Dawes needle and catch can but the mechanic couldn't clear the chech engine light and so pulled out the EGR plate.

I'm no mechanic but believe it's in the usual dump pipe place.

Not real sure but I think about 8/10psi.

Putting the plate back in will lower your EGT's.... Or drill an 8mm hole in the guts of the plate. This will equalise the pressure in the EGR valve and making the ECU think its working. While your not totally blocking the EGR, you will be slowing it down a lot still.
Time for a bigger intercooler and better bonnet scoop. This combo will certainly help.

definitely do the exhaust and block egr that will help the temps. but I think what a few of them are getting at is have you checked your maf sensor. anyway past that I have an auto with bd2.75 egr block and steinbauer and at 110 im sitting about 320 degrees . and from what im reading now is that I should be doing a new intercooler with a new larger intake air scoop which seems to be the bomb

Oh yeah I have done the bigger scoop.

Needs more boost should see 15psi that'll drop the temp down also dropping a gear driving at about 2500rpm will keep temps down too.i hardly ever used 5th gear on my old zd30 and never used it towing

I'll have to pay closer attention next trip. Maybe it is around 15psi.

Anyone recommend someone to fit the EGR plate in the Queanbeyan / Canberra region that knows what they're doing? As I said the last bloke just took it back out cause he couldn't clear the check engine light.

If you are going to drill a hole in your blanking plate, clamp it well and
use a slow speed, SS doesn't like fast drilling it will burn and melt your drill.
Clean up with a 4" grinder, the hole tricks the ECU into thinking the EGR is still working
