I noticed what looked like a very light film of oil at the output of the turbo of my 2012 CRD. It has just clicked over 40K. Took it to Nissan. They tested it and said that the turbo seals are leaking. New turbo on order. All covered under warranty. Any one else been down this path?

Is there some one out there that can tell me why the heat shield at the rear of the turbo has been butchered??

If you look you can see where it has been cut for some un known reason.....

Maybe they couldn't get the bolts off To access the turbo? I'd be taking it back and tell them to replace it that's just farking lazy

I have sent a email off to Nissan head office to ask why this would have been done. The car drives better than before but I am concerned about heat escaping from the gapping hole and causing issues. Plus it looks crap!!!

If it's done under warranty it should be done as standard, they have just tried to save labour cost, there reason should be funny either way

The Turbo heat shield can be a real bugger to get off but that is no excuse esp for a Dealer workshop.

Take it straight back and tell them to fix it and tell them their shitty workmanship doesn't auger well for your ongoing Warranty relationship with them.
Be nice but be very firm and you will find that they will go the extra yard in the future so they don't get it in the neck again.

that is shocking, they must have used the apprentice to do that job as surely a qualified dealer mechanic would not do that, take it back and tell them you want a new heat shield installed.

Here is a close up... I find myself being quite speechless. I will likely get angry soon...

Thats exactly how mine started... How many K's have you done? Mine has about 45K on it now.. I would think that if oil is collecting there there would also be a heap going into the intercooler and inlet manifold. A visit to your dealer might be on the cards.. Good luck..

Glad yours is sorted by Nissan mate. Mine isn't leaking at any of the hoses, but intercooler has oil in it and catch can is picking up lots too. Plus turbo is making a mechanical noise when spooling up or under load, so for a for a while I've believed mine was rooted. No warranty so will cost a fortune to fix. Garret GT2052V for a CRD are circa $1500 brand new.

Confronted the dealer yesterday. Had a quick look and said they will get a new part in and call me when its ready to go in. I guess they were just hoping that I would not notice. And there would be some out there that would not have noticed....

Good outcome mate. Dealers always hope that customers "won't notice". Sometimes they run into a mechanically minded person like you and they get shafted in the end.
