First gear low range. With 33s. The angle of the hill was close to 40 degrees so heaps of weight on the back wheels and front lokka engaged.

Also it's a carby model so maybe when it flooded it put enough fuel in to ignite it backwards.

It's possible alright, I had that happen on a tractor towing a fully loaded trailer up out of the paddock. Exactly the same situation only I was able to shut the engibe off as it hit level ground, no where near as steep as that.

Regardless, you don't need to bother. It goes well as it is. I'm sure out of UAE they do all sorts to these engines, but if you want it as a daily and well performing weekend machine 4.8 is already excellent. Just not gonna tour as easily as a deiesel to the middle of nowhere. Depends on your usage profile I guess. Even taking into account fuel, the price for a good 4.2 TD in a GU is so much more that it will buy you a lot of fuel. Would I prefer the diesel? Probably, but can I afford it? Nup :)

I loved mine, but have to admit I was only paying 15c per litre in fuel.

Agronaught
11th December 2014, 05:29 AM
The single biggest issue with the 4.8 is keeping fuel up to it. Mine is on lpg which gimped the distance I could travel until I replaced the sub tank with a long range unit.

I've owned 2 gas cars before, 1 factory straight gas and 1 was a conversion. Personally, I had some problems with the LPG system on the converted car. I also found fuel consumption higher than petrol, and with the cost of gas now, I won't go for gas again. I spent ages looking for my patrol, since I wanted a good condition GQ, that was petrol only. Wasn't too hard to find one in good condition, but awful hard to find without the gas conversion done. Having said that, I'm told fuel consumption might have been better if the engine was tuned for it, and I'm sure lots of people love their conversions, just not for me anymore. Any car I buy in the future will be petrol or diesel.

Soooo anyway. I tried my best to get something anything practical and can't stand toyotas and their prices and I am not getting a dual cab as every ute I've had out with me has broken and or failed miserably.

I took a few jeeps for a drive and bloody hated them. Didn't feel right in them at all. Plus my wife said that every movie you see a jeep in there's a chick in a bikini driving it and I don't look good in bikinis apparently( might be the hairy back and chest). So not one of those.

It's going to be the Pajero due to the fact the wife enjoys driving it and I won't be able to mod the crap out of it with lifts and such. Haha little does she know.

At least you will probably get a 4by and can still have some fun. That's the way I look at it. I went with the guys on the Tallrook trip on the weekend. Parked beside some of the others my old Jack looks like a teenager that still needs to grow. But it still followed along nicely.

But I don't plan on leaving here unless the big ban stick comes out for leaving the patrol religion. I haven't converted more just testing the waters.

Well I promise not to post pics of said vehicle but I may need a name change. Hahaha.

Cheers fellas
Shane

Shit mate... my brother inlaw has an 04 Paj and he loves it.???

You are part of the furniture mate so no matter what you drive (well almost) you know you have a home here !!!!

Well Id work the angle that the stock patrol will be half capable off road..
A stock paja is black top stuff and will need modifying to do mild trips.
And doesn't want to hop up?? That's what steps are for lol..

I call bullshit kallen.. I have gone out with a number of different pajeros and all managed to tackle most of what I did..

I drove a 1981 hilux and could out drive many more modern 4wd's.. no the pajero does not have the toughest driveline but still a capable 4wd.

Haha. Thanks guys. Unfortunately I have tried everything and if she had her way I would be driving a Hyundai Getz hahahaha.

I had a win in just getting a 4wd.

Her parents are from Belfast and so she never grew up with 4bys so doesn't understand the joy of it and refuses flatly on coming with me. Even hates going to the beach.

But I love her madly so I can put up with certain things

slap a 2in lift on it and some 32s or 33s and you'll be fine mate................ my brother had a 93 and my old man has a 2004 and considering they were both stock as, they both went/go pretty hard and dare I say it, more comfortable than the GQs and GUs. Only thing I'm not so keen on my old mans...... to much electronics for my liking but its an Exceed auto, so that may or may not have something to do with it.

So are you getting petrol or diesel?

Careful of those autos as they do have an issue and can cost about $5000 to fix.
Now if its the earlier paj the stock gq springs go straight in to give it a 2 inch lift.

I've been trying for a while to work out a way to wangle a new Paj as a company car instead of my Territory. It's coming up for replacement soon and that would give me a diesel 7 seater that's reasonably capable for long distance touring and the GQ them becomes a full-on high country toy.......
They're not quite as capable out of the box as a Patrol but I have some mates with Paj's and have seen them do some pretty crazy chit in them. Wheels all over the place with locker and TC going bezerk but still some crazy chit.
I rate them.

Prado... means Lawn or Meadow in Spanish

When translated into Australian it means "My other Car is a Volvo and I like to drive that with my head up my arse as well"

It's Latin American vernacular. If you said it in Spain they don't really know what you mean as it doesn't have the same usage.
