On Sunday the 14th of December I will be doing a novice day at Tallarook so I can test how my car is going.

Meet at Broadford Petrol station at the north of town(165 High St Broadford VIC 3658) at 9.30am and uhf17 will be used.

Recovery points are a must.

For those that do not know I have arranged a few of these beginner days and everyone has had an enjoyable time, there is the also a lot of medium tracks we will do also and all novices will enjoy.

This is a family friendly day and I will have my 4 year old boy with me and we will stop down at the dam for lunch.

This is not a club run and has nothing to do with Nissanpatrol.com and is merely a bunch of friends going for a drive and any damage sustained is on the owner.... 4wding can be dangerous.

Here are just a few pics from some of our trips... friendly bunch.

the tower is Mt Hickey,
can be reached via Mountain trk, Rocky Trk, Phone track if your keen or the main road up to the tower,

FYI half way down the main road from the tower if you take a certain "track' left it opens up on a granite sided slope on the mountain
great spot for plenty of 4x4s and a great view as well

Yes. While I was only out on cup weekend, driving Tallarook is different and will take a bit to find my driving feet.
Don't worry Paule, we will never make you drive something your not comfortable doing. We are out there to have fun, not spend the day doing recoveries. Last trip like this we did, we came to a decent rocky hill and only some of us went up, we just turned around at the top and came back down, then headed on.

Hey Paule, when I say slow c@rnts, I'm actually referring to keeping the convoy moving between tracks with no stragglers. Otherwise people can get lost and potentially into trouble. More about keeping the group together for safety's sake.
Every track/obstacle is taken at your own pace and there will be people there to help you.
It was not meant to imply you or anyone will be under pressure to race through stuff on the day mate.....apart from Mudski....LOL

Hey thats how Darren rolls... Fast and Furious !!!!!! lol.

Dont worry Paule Tallarook is an easy place to get around in and you will have a very enjoyable time.

When I do a novice day it is challenging but not hard, also all tracks meet up after only a short distance so there are options to miss a track if you dont feel up to it and even on some more challenging tracks there and chicken tracks around the tougher sections.

Anyone else beside BA know this area? I have been maybe four times but I don't really know the area well. If we split the group this may be an issue.

I have all tracks from last time saved on my Hema, which weren't that difficult. But without that, if I was there without this map, I'd be blind as well. We just wing it I say. lol

Mate the notice is no problem, it is just handy to know who and how many we are waiting for if we need to wait a few minutes. Would hate to head off and leave someone behind if they are a few minutes behind. So if you are able to let us know the day before it even the morning of would be great. If not make sure you are on time.

You will need to be on time if you are coming mate... when you get such a big crew its hard to know if everyone has turned up and how long we need to wait..

If you are running late post up on this thread on the day as we will have reception in town and will know for sure if someone is on there way but running late.

As for splitting up Tallarook is easy and there is a good chance we will all stay together except for a couple of sections where we will meet on the other side of an obstacle.

I still have a couple of things to do to my car before then but with Mags leaving for Italy on Wednesday and I am leaving for a mates on Friday there is so much to do....blah!!!!

Should be a fun day and I am looking forward to my first real drive in over 6 months.

Another end of a bloody great day. A few winchings, a few snatchings out of the bog, some great hill climbs, one climb we made everyone turn back down. For some reason I had the lead today, went the wrong way a few times, but all in all it was a great trip, what a great bunch of goats.

Well just got home before. What can I say... Absolutely spewing about Johnos car. What farkin' shit luck that is... Just as well it happened there and not half way up a track or something.
Anyways great day. Nice to meet some new faces, and finished it off with mudski and lucus at the flowerdale pub for an amazing parma and few pots! I have a ton of windscreen cam and hill climb videos, I'll sort out when I get a chance...
Thanks to everyone who showed up! We'll do it again.

Mick I didn't think you got lost we were just looking for some new tracks. I have a few pics and vids that I will put up tom, it is now bed time.

Hmm yes its was a great day. Just spent $20 at the car wash just cleaning under the guards, brakes and suspension, and then the car wash bay. Still no way near clean underneath but atleast I got a good portion there instead of the road at my place.
I had a poo in the pants moment turn around on a hill. Won't be doing that again. I definitely want to go back and do this hill again. Eric, you've flourished dude. Not much stops you now hey! Big difference from when you first came out with us.
And I think paule has got the bug after his first day out. He had the biggest grin on his face all day.

I'm sorry to hear about BA's car and hope its nothing major and you get it sorted out soon, thanks for organizing the trip. Was great to meet some new people. Thank you all

Yeh turning around on that camber slope wasn't great - retrospectively think the better option wld have been for the few of us already 1/2 way up to keep on going and turn around at the top. Definately a hill to tackle again!

Where we turned was o.k. Its just that feeling you have of the sideways tilt. when you just been sitting in the car for so long facing upwards.

Alls good Drew. It wasn't a steep section, just a little lose on the foot. We got one turned around, then it was my turn and I think it was more just the odd feeling more than anything. The guys who were directing me were all great, its just one of those things where you can't see behind you and your relying on others. I wouldn't have done it if it wasn't safe to do so.

Yep, I reckon his bank balance is gonna be under siege ... just need that one more thing to make it easier. ha ha

Gee I reckon he did well though, first day out with no real training. There was nothing drastic, but a few big climbs that he could have easily said no to. Did them all with no dramas at all. Well done mate!

Wow, what a turnout 12 in total I think it was.
First up for me is thanks to Fletch for driving with me to fill up. Mego for taking the lead which when in doubt go left seem not to work for mudski.
BA, spewing that you didn't make it, your definitely a character and you were missed, all the best with the q.
To the rest of the guys that made the day into what it was a huge thank you, had a ball.
Don't think there was any damage reported, however I did get to close to a tree (where Lucus and mudski both needed assistance) and broke some clips off the rear door flare, no biggie.
Bring on the next one....

Back in April, we drove through the same spot, no dramas. BA even jumped out and took photos. It's way changed now...... Although it was much drier back then. Just after Summer. Here is Drew just before that corner where Mudski got shafted.

Ouch. Maybe some sliders in the near future mate ?? I think Mudski copped the same dint in that hole he fell in as his door was getting pushed in due to the angle of the first winch attempt.

Edit: TD beat me to the sliders suggestion.

Trouble with bog holes is idiots fill them up with sticks and logs,
the first thing they want to do is punch a hole through your floor and other nasty stuff.
If you do a bog hole for the sake of it coop it sweet and move on.
If you continue to do bog holes it will deplete your wallet very quickly.
The smart move is if you dont need to go through the bog hole dont.
problem solved,no damage ready for the next challenge

Here is a video of hill climbs, mudskis big splash and some winching . It is a shame I didn't capture Seans (Family4x4 ) , hill climb. His GQ was airborne at the rock step... By the time I got the camera going it was too late. Also keep an eye out for Cameron's ( cgm), Jackaroo hop at around 9:49. The car bounced a few metres to the right, looked mighty impressive... Other than that excuse the low quality video.
