Hey guys, been around for a while now but thought I should probably get around to putting together this ride thread.

This is my 2008 GU6 3.0L, current mods include: nissan steel bull bar, safari snorkel, lift kit, 33" muddies, roof rack, rated recovery points front and rear (thanks 3dogs), cb radio and rear draw system.

Future mods include: light bar, winch - hopefully for Christmas (but still undecided on what winch to buy), compressor, EGT / boost gauge, 2.75" exhaust and a dual battery system down the track for extended touring duties

Patrol as I bought it

Its great listening to them crying all the time "Should've bought a Patrol boo hoo " yeah right

Cheers TD, the 305/70/16 MTZ's make a huge difference to the stance IMO - even compared with the 285/75/16 BFG's that I had on my previous GU.

Yeh my mate wasn't too impressed me taking the photo getting ready to snatch the 75 series out!!

So after the trip out to bunyip park last weekend, I noticed that the tyres were struggling to hold pressure. Anyway get home Friday night, only to notice that the the back right was completely flat, sitting on the rim at the other 3 weren't looking great either!!

Spent the rest of the the night swapping over the tyres to put the AT's back on and going over and checking the tyres, howeverbut couldn't find any cuts or snicks that would lead to all 4 tyres going down.

The only thing I can think of is that when letting some more pressure out of the tyres 1/2 way up a track that the valve didn't go back in or properly and it has been slowly releasing since.

Has this ever happened to anyone before?

Any suggestions on how to fix, is it as simple as getting the deflator and screwing the vauvle back in properly?

It's possible that if you have been in muddy ruts mud has got between the rim and the tyre. This happened to me on a few occasions on an older set of tyres. Since I changed the tyres I haven’t had a problem. I had to have the tyre re-set on the wheel on a few occasions. Depending on how much mud gets in depends on how quick it goes down. It can take between several days to a number of hours before I noticed it.

Yeh that's what it turned out to be, just a bit of mud and gunk broke the seal. I took them down to the local tyre place and got them all re-set and balanced. All good now. Cheers.

So as per some of my previous posts, I got myself an Runva 11XP winch as an early Christmas present. I'll put up a few photos off the installation and things I did along the way to help with the installation. As with all things, I'm sure there are a heap of different way to do things but this is just what worked for me

So as per Rocket's advice I removed the front grill and bash plate which provided heaps of room to get access for the installation. Was straight forward enough, just had to remove the 4 black plastic screw clips that hold the grill in the top and then pop out the 3 remaining plastic clips* and remove the 8 bolts holding on the bash plate to the bar.

5249652497

Next step was to rotate the gearbox on the winch to suit the application. There are instructions for this on Runva's website and essentially involves removing the stainless steel tie bars to pull the gearbox off the winch and then removing the screw's to rotate the casing to the required position

It took a couple goes to get the angle right on the clutch for the application due to the non-existent access to the clutch from the top of the bar, and very limited access through the bull bar gaps.

Once I was happy with the rotation of the gearbox, I fliped the winch around so that the gearbox was on the drivers side so that the winch bolted straight up to the bar and the rope fed out from the top. Once again as per Rocket's advice, the standard bolts weren't long enough once you included the width of the fair led - about 10mm short.

With one person holding up with winch from underneath like a bench press and the other bolting it up from the front it was a straight forward process.

For me the most challenging problem was finding the best location to mount the solenoid / control box.

Once again due the bar / grill there was no real option of mounting the solenoid / control box on top of the bar like on other vehicles that I have seen. Because the winch cradle mounts vertically to the bar the normal mounting points included with the winch on the stainless steel tie bars didn't work.

I considered mounting within the engine bay, but to the size of the box didn't have a great spot that wouldn't impact on the installation of future mods.

As such I ended up having my brother fabricate up a bracket out of a couple sections of right angle steel that were left overs that allowed the control box to be mounted off the cross member.

Final step was to wire it up it all up as per the Runva instructions which was all fairly straight forward. Big thanks to lucus30 for giving me a hand to crimp up the factory earth cables and install the new battery terminals.

There was a winch isolator included with the winch with a removable yet that I am yet to install (similar to the below photo).

52510

The isolator switch appears to be good quality and of appropriate rating, however to install it means that I will need to get additional cables / modify lengths of existing cables to fit it in.

Also due to the size of it I haven't yet decided where exactly I want it under the bonnet - or if I want something more along the lines of an inline in-line winch power isloator that was included standard on my brothers 6HP Roos System winch and available from Road Runner...

http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=111523250323

52511

So besides for a bit of clean up of some loose ends and working out where to permanently mount the number plate so that is doesn't interfere with the rope during installation, I'm pretty happy with how everything went.

Thanks mate, it was good finally to see it all wired up and working ready for the weekend! Mind you seeing how easily biggqweesty pulled apart and mounted the control box and I'm now starting to think about modifying ... I'll add it to the list to think about further - for now it'll do the trick.

Installed my 30" LED light bar this afternoon - was a tight squeeze to fit on the bull bar, but made up a bracket to offset the bar which provided more clearance

5323053231

Got it on special from a Bright Light Auto Parts, rated IP68 and comes with a 5 year warranty - so should hopefully do the trick! Will add up photos from the night test run tomorrow

Also finally got around to extending my diff breathers. Ended up buying a kit off http://www.nissangupatrol.com/ because I couldn't find any decently priced fuel / oil resistant hose anywhere easily. Kit cost about $65 and came with all the necessary fittings and instructions were available online.

Run out of time to complete the transfer and transmission case, hence the spare 2 spots.

Question for those that have done this upgrade - what did you do with the factory hoses?

I pulled the rear one out completely, but it's now left a hole where it used to screw into the 'cross member'(?) - below photo has the barb just sitting in there for photo purposes

53235

The front one if I pulled out of the diff housing, but left the rest of the cable there and just tied it up out of ether way...

I removed all the steel piping for the front diff (engine was out) and just used the press in tubing. I left the rear barb in place on the cross member as I couldn't be arsed pulling it out when it isn't doing anything or in the way.

Yeh I took the rear off because it was relatively easy, and figured the hose could be useful as a spare in an emergency but the front one looked like a PITA to remove (with the engine still in). Thanks mate.

Hooked up the rear 20w LED work light on one of ferrets brackets. It's powered up by via the rear fuse box with a relay for good measure and then switched on up the front via an ON-OFF-ON switch.

The light works manually, but I'm still having some problems picking up the trigger from reverse to switch the light on automatically - problem for another day!!

Where did you send the wire through at the back for the spare wheel light ??

Also if your relay is somewhere close at the back you could pick up reverse trigger from the wired up rev. light maybe .

Thanks mate.

After some deliberation and research, I drilled a hole on the back of the door (just under the light bracket), painted it up and but a rubber gland over it before shoving the wire through.

It appeared to be the way that most people did it on later model GU's. How have you connected your work light up?

Yeh relay is up the back next to the fuse box.

http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/images/imported/2016/01/81.jpg

Based on my limited understanding of auto elec work, I was under the impression that the switch needed the reverse trigger and not the relay. I.e. If the switch was turned 'on' manually or triggered by reverse it would power of the relay and conversely the light...

Happy to be corrected though?

Bloody fantastic Nath. Jealous is an understatement. Will be heading up there on Friday, Not sure where we'll end up yet but aiming for Grannys flat, depending on how busy area is we'll probably end up at the trusty R. Creek. Did you go to the top of the Slate mine?

Thanks mate, it was fantastic weather missed all the extreme Melbourne heat last couple days sitting by the river.

I've never been to Granny's flat - how do you rate it? Running creek had a few people around on Friday, wasn't completely full but most of the good isolated spots were already taken.

We walked up near to the top I think - left the cars down the bottom as we weren't sure if you could get access all the way over the top?

Never camped at grannys flat either. Just drove through/past it a few times. So this will be new to me.

Slate mine at the top is a popular 4x4 taking spot. Amazing view. If you can get there. I managed to get up there for a photo, but it was a bit hairy.... The last time I was there in August from memory, the 2 common ways to get up there were very completely erroded and there seemed to be a mini landslide, making it impossible to get a car up there. I don't know what its like up there now...

Yeh ok, we had some pretty stock cars with us so didn't even think about trying to climb it and also thinking maybe we didn't walk completely to the top now as well lol

I'll have to have a proper look next time I'm in the area and see if we can make it up!

Hahaha that is my “dog crate” for my puppy lol
It was a last minute purchase as wife didn’t think that her plastic kennel we used last time would fit her any longer. We still need to get a cover or something for when she sleeps outside

The ankle is going well thanks, been “walking” unassisted for a couple weeks now which has been great. But still a lot of physio and rehab to go before it gets back to previous strength

We drove in on Friday evening and it wasn’t looking too bad tbh, but went straight for tunnel bend. I’ve seen it busier I would say - perhaps a lot of people were at wonnangatta for the centenary celebrations?
