View Full Version : Weird ABS problem

Hi guys

I have a weird problem I'm hoping one of you can help with...

When braking from a slowish speed (below about 15mph) the front near side abs cuts in and I get the shuddering and feedback through the brake pedal. If I'm going faster it doesn't happen (until I've slowed to below 15mph). There are no warning lights on the dash and diagnostics don't show anything wrong. The rotor has been checked and looks fine - the abs sensor visually looks fine and was replaced three years ago anyway. If I remove the ABS fuse it doesn't happen.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Nick

G`day Nick
Was the diagnostics done by a specialist or by a local mechanic as some diagnostic tools don`t always show all the faults.
The fault may be buried deep inside the electronics and without specialist help may be hard to find.
I know this is not much help but normally a faulty sensor brings up a code as with most wiring faults.
Most ABS units don`t activate under about 20ks per hour so you do have a tricky one. Dose the ABS work at normal speed under extreme braking as it does not come into play untill you are at the stage of locking the wheels. A good test is to put 2 wheels in the dirt and 2on the bitumen and brake hard enough to lock the ones in the dirt. Sorry for going back to basics, just thinking out loud.
Let us know how you get on

Thanks Pearcey
Yes it was done by a specialist. I had a feeling nothing would show as wouldn't the ABS light be on if it had detected a fault with a sensor?
I haven't tried extreme braking, so not sure if it is working correctly at higher speeds. Will try tomorrow. Someone else mentioned they didn't think ABS should work below a certain speed but this is definitely happening below about 15mph down to a stop.
Hmmm...
Cheers
