Well we have bitten the bullet and in a couple of days will be the proud owners of a 02 Patrol GU III Plus MY2002. :clapping: We feel it was a good buy and am hoping we will have many happy hours touring around the countryside.
A couple of things we would like to know - does anyone know of a good Nissan mechanic anywhere near Wynnum? And what would be the first place/track you would tackle? Remember we are new to 4WD'ing so we aren't going to be too adventurous on our first outing. Thinking of going to Fraser later this month. Anything we need to know about driving on the sand? Less air etc.? Will post pics after we have bought our new pride and joy.

Welcome Kathy.

Unless you have a few friends who can tag along can I strongly recommend you join a 4WD club at least for a year or two.

The Clubs aren't for everyone but you may find one you love and stay or you may move on.
One thing for sure tho is that after just a few trips you will have 10 times the experience and knowledge and that means 100 times the enjoyment of wheeling around in your new purchase.

Thanks for your welcome :) Looking forward to getting out and about in the Troll, as you call it :) Col has been to Fraser but I have never been so I agree with you that it will be a great first trip.

Hi there, thanks for your message and for the suggestion of joining a club. That is a great idea, probably wouldn't have thought of it really, and as we are new to this I can see how it would benefit us. We have looked at a couple and can see the experience they have just through photos and their posts.

Is there anyone near the Wynnum area that could help us out with doing the NADS on the Patrol. Will be happy to buy a carton of beer and feed you :)

Hello and welcome as stated either go with ppl with some experience or as suggested join a club[Highly recommend]
that will teach you the right way. and not form any bad habits, this sport has killed and will kill more, because some ppl dont care.
NEVER use the TOWBALL as a recovery point EVER. If ever in doubt if you think you can make it take the chicken track, you'll still get to the top.
If you have the diesel read up on NADS and limp mode you'll have your Patrol a lot longer.
And dont forget to post some pics of your new pride and joy we love pics here, Safety is the main thing at all times

This is the description on the advertisement -

OFFERS WTD!! See below. ONE OWNER with FULL HISTORY 4WD - READY FOR IMMEDIATE SALE with SAFETY CERTIFICATE - I have updated my vehicle so I am keen to move this vehicle on as it is no longer being used. As it stands, I have this vehicle insured for more than the asking price given it's quality & condition so make me a reasonable offer. I am ready to negotiate and very keen to sell. Many Extra's $$$ and TLC has gone into this meticulously maintained vehicle. It is in pristine condition top to bottom and presents like new condition. Vehicle has always been garaged and totally cigarette free. Both the interior/exterior, paint work are all in excellent condition with the upholstery still with a new look having always been covered. The vehicle has 7 seats with the option to fold the wagon seats up or take them out to create a huge cargo space with oodles of room. Perfect for the family holiday, towing (2" lift with extra air-bag Susp providing excellent clearance and durability for extra load when needed), camping, touring or heading off the beaten track. Fully detailed inside and out. You won't find a better looking or presented vehicle in the same class and beats many later models hands downs for condition, history and km's. Plenty of best quality extra's included. It has had Log Book Servicing with Full History and Receipts available and presently running Bridgestone D694 A/T tyres rotated as scheduled with still about 80-90% of wear left. If you are after a Nissan Patrol with pretty much everything that has a great look this one ticks all the boxes. For the purpose of selling the vehicle in top condition, the vehicle has just had (more $$$$) a professionally fitted New upgraded Keyless Remote Entry System installed which includes 2 new remote tabs and a new genuine Nissan drivers door lock assembly.
The vehicle has never been used for any extreme or heavy 4wd'ing which is quite apparent from it's condition and was used for only a short period of time to occasionally tow a camper trailer and or a tinnie a few years back. Excellent vehicle for touring or family holidays with plenty of cargo space and go anywhere ability. There is no panel or under-body damage, no rust and the vehicle has never been in any accidents. You won't believe how good this vehicle is top to bottom until you have seen it

Fully Rust proofed and Full Protection pack from new with proof of purchase and all relevant doc's.

Rego is paid up to the end of May 2015 which is plenty of $$$ saved for the new owner.

Always been mechanically sound and maintained by 4wd Specialist and has a full documented mechanical and maintenance history available for the new owner.

This is a GU III PLUS series with hard to match history and condition.

It is a one off and worth taking the time to have a look. If you are a serious buyer, first to see will buy it!!

Inspection welcome.

Thanks for the helpful info. I don't think we will be doing anything extreme for quite some time so the chicken track will do us nicely until we have more experience and confidence :) Besides the Patrol is in fantastic condition so we will probably treat it with lots of TLC while we can lol. We will have very precious cargo with us most of the time, grandsons 7, 2 & 1 plus daughter 19 & ourselves :), so wouldn't risk doing anything stupid. Really looking forward to getting out and about with them all

Welcome , for easy drives around brisbane
Duck creek rd , starts at Kerry just south of Beaudesert and takes you up to OReillys
Condermine river road , Runs between Boona and Killarney
Deagular range , national park up Samford way
Bribie island , can be busy on weekends , but a good start to sand driving .

Fraser is awsome , I reckon a minimum of a week , so much to see .

A good starting book / guide , dirty weekends in the great south east , all easy to moderate trips in south east Qld

Hi Kathy,

Mudski on this forum can point you in the right direction for the NADS, he can also supply you with all the parts for the mod + good clear guides on how to get the install done properly, if your mechanic isnt too sure. Congrats on the new patrol and hopefully well see you of these days around the tracks or even at one of the next meetups!

Cheers

Nic
